I just got a Elecraft KPA-500 and KAT-500 combo. Everything seems to work
fine. What I noticed in the F5K operation is if I enable the ATU in AUTO it
immediately reverts to Bypass. I have not seen this before.
Common sense tells me to run the F5K in Bypass mode because the KAT-500 will
take care
you are seeing appropriate behavior. If PSDR sees that the original SWR is
low (ie, 1.3:1) it will bypass the ATU because its not needed. But you
are correct that you should never run an ATU between the rig and the amp.
