Isn't the point of ALC to be a safeguard? Obviously you don't set all knobs
right (I *love* that phrase) and rely on ALC to take care of the level-setting
for you.
Won't ALC save you from

Peter,
Others beat me to the punch here so for the most part I'll just add my
metoo, but mention that in the cases where ALC is implemented between
two rigs as part of an engineered system it can work as advertised.
Those systems are few and far between, unfortunately.
I have no specific

Hello
I’ve read with interest the pro’s and con’s of the ALC. But the fact is I
don’t have
it on the F3k. So since I don’t and I can not change that, for me the best way
to
get around it has been to use DDutil and set the drive levels. So my question
becomes is there a better way to do it?
Actually you don't want to use an ALC connection if you can possibly avoid
it. ALC is designed to protect the amplifier from overdrive by feedback
to the transmitter... reducing its gain. That, in fact, creates a nonlinear
overall gain function in the overall radio-amp chain that is not
Hi All
Yes, there is no ALC output from the Flex 3000 - hopefully will be addressed
in future models.
If it takes 100 watts to drive the ALS 600 to full power (as reported by
others), then then you can probably comfortably live without it.
If you get reports that after you have everything

Hopefully it won't. ALC is not desirable.

If numbers count, I concur with Bill.
I use my 5000A with both high-mu triodes (8877, YC156) and screamingly
high gain tetrodes (GU-74B) and it works like a dream without ALC. With
the triodes, IMD3 is usually in the low -40's, with the Russian tetrodes
coming in a little dirtier. Solid-state
