Thank you Gerald for the explanation.

The problem is that the FLEX-5000 has to be on to control it
since the control cable is Firewire. When the power is off,

All of the modern gadgets do it, Gerald. A circuit to receive
the button press or remote IR/UHF signal is alive all the
time. That circuit has

Even the Extras among us get used to using only one switch to turn a
radio on/off. The official way to startup a SDR-1000 requires a 3
step process. Ref: p. 130 SDR-1000 Operating Manual V 1.8.

I was a little surprised that Gerald didn't design the new 5000 radio to
turn power on/off remotely by the PowerSDR ON button. Would have made it
easier to remote it. Maybe in the Flex-6000 4 years from now?

The TV is on, so the remote control receiver can receive the commands
to turn on the HV, etc. (or at least, part of it is on).

I rather have a hardware switch that takes the radio

I don't want a hacker, or other malevolent force to be able to mess

I did go into my sdr1000 and add a relay that switches the Main Power

do use the original power button to power up the stack assembly to
