Just an update on this.
I can re-arrange the default keboard (and presumably js - haven't tried yet)
bindings from the default settings in preferences by entries in the a/c
set.xml file.
This means I can change the brake set-up from one gear and three wheels, with
a brake on each wheel, to fou

In the preferences file there's a single gear entry with three wheel entries
to handle the brakes. While this is fine for light a/c with fixed gear, it
doesn't work right with larger a/c with retract
