For what it's worth, I ended up with a refurb compaq (now hp?) presario laptop with nvidia graphics hardware. It has a dual 64-bit AMD processor and so far I have been really happy with it. Everything (sound, video, wireless network, etc.) is well supported under Linux. And it performs pretty de
