Not sure if I am using different scenery than John was/is, but while I have slightly reduced frame rates at the airport or pointed towards the terminal (20 +), flying around Manhattan or the area does not affect my rate from a normal of 30-40. This is on a Macbook Pro, intel c2d, 3gb usable
