Hi, So, is there any ruling? Who's in charge right now? If there are already instances of the Red Bull logo in the database, why isn't my AH-1 getting committed? Why aren't the other logos getting deleted? I just want to see something done. Somebody just commit the aircraft and get it over with. Re: [Flightgear-devel] Possessiveness
Hi, I hope my comment did not come off as angry or hostile. My only intentions were to issue a firm reminder to Anders that I would rather he contact me first. The AH-1 currently in fgdata is outdated from the one I have in my personal repo. This makes it inconvenient for me to merge the changes. In this case the merge was nothing to sneeze at, but I tried to make a point so if/when someone makes a large update, we wont have any trouble. I don't expect anything more than a simple email or private message, just as I would give to another author before ever changing their work. Re: [Flightgear-devel] Default Aircraft Candidates
I had started this thread in hopes we would have a democracy type decision, and vote for the aircraft we think would be a best replacement. I rarely fly large jets, and usually fly helicopters, but I do think that the default jumbo jet should either have a few more restrictions so you can't take off at 70 kts. I do know an airline pilot that has flown the 777 before, maybe I'll ask him to come over and try our 777. On the subject of other aircraft than the 777; I think the BO-105 could be replaced with either the EC-135 or AH-1. The state of the BO-105 cockpit is not very good at the moment, and a great visual model along with a good FDM is what we want. I think I may set up a poll for informational proposes to help see what the majority really wants, as with some of the replies in this thread I cannot tell what some people believe should be done about these aircraft. Another developer did a lot of work on the BO-105 cockpit semi- recently, but his work was prevented from being committed to GIT by the BO-105's original author. (His motives for denying the work from GIT were a load of horse manure if you ask me.) As for the Dragonfly, the performance just seems unreal, thought I've never flown on myself. I think we could replace it with the Dromader, a much higher detail aircraft with a pretty extensively detailed FDM. I would also like to suggest that the MiG-15 be added as a default aircraft, since it's extreme detail and realism is far beyond that of any other aircraft we have. Literally every switch, knob and button works and has an effect, and every airframe limit is in the FDM. I do have one question, though. Every flightgear installation includes an aircraft called FG Video Assistant. It wont even start up. If I select and launch it, flightgear simply crashes at loading aircraft. What is the (intended) purpose of this aircraft? I think it should either be removed or repaired, as any aircraft that causes flightgear to crash may decrease a users opinion of the simulator. I'll see if I can think of any more aircraft we can replace/add. Check Six, Jack -- Free Software Download: Index, Search Analyze Logs and other IT data in Real-Time with Splunk. [Flightgear-devel] Default Aircraft Candiates
Hi, Perhaps some of you have noticed, that some of the aircraft that come with the standard flightgear package should be changed. A few examples, we could have a more realistic commercial jet than the 777-200(the FDM is terribly unrealistic), we could have a better modeled helicopter than the BO-105, and a better ultralight than the dragonfly. I suggest we refine these aircraft, and say, replace the BO-105 with either the EC-135, EC-130, or AH-1. The Dragonfly could be swapped with the M18B Dromader, and the 772, well, it could be replaced with a commercial jet that _doesn't_ handle like an F-18, but still has a nice cockpit and good model. Hi, The Red Bull livery has been removed from this release. Download: http://jackmermod.bplaced.net/Files/cobra21511.zip I find it ridiculous and a bit immature how Oliver people whine about a simple logo. If Oliver really cared about preventing fictitious lawsuits as he claims to, he would concentrate his efforts on the several red bull logos that are already in our database. If this thread is further interfered with, I will be forced to result to more forceful methods of having my work committed, or I may very well change the license back to the CC license and our community will have missed out on a very high quality aircraft. Hi Stuart, Have you now changed your mind, and are _all_ the authors of this happy for it to be released under the GPL? Yes, I have spoken with Simon and we have decided that we will release under the GPL v2 in order to get it in GIT. At first we were concerned about FlightProSim stealing it, but I have better ways to fight back than using the CC license. Secondly, are all the works on which it is based GPL compatible (sounds graphics etc.) ? Yes. The sounds are actually real in flight recordings from both a UH-1H and an AH-1S. I have a friend that flies a UH-1H for SAR, and he provided the recordings that he took under the GPL. As far as the AH-1S sounds, I asked the permission of the author of a video of a flight in the AH-1S for the sounds and he agreed to their use under the GPL. Re: [Flightgear-devel] Ridding Multiplayer of Abusers
Would it be possible to start logging and saving (and publishing) MP messages somewhere so a person with a grievance would have some hard evidence to show what happened. Right now when push comes to shove, we are in a he said/she said situation. But if we logged every message + call sign + ip address we could go back and review situations. Certainly it's possible the grieved party might have said something initially that was more controversial than they remember and started the situation degenerating into something worse than it would have been. Certainly it's possible that comments would be misinterpreted. We could also passively collect some stats on what portion of messages contain possibly offending language or what specific call signs might have unusually high percentages of matching words. Not initially to use for enforcement, but just to review the true nature of the situation so we can make a more informed decision as to if we have a real problem that needs to be addressed, or not ... ? I understand that data free discussions are the most fun, but if we logged and published MP messages, we could do some statistical analysis on all the conversations, and we would also have specific cases we could review to determine if there really is a problem or not. I'd hate to spend 6 months developing an authentication system because one idiot one time said something stupid and it never happened again. But if stuff happens regularly, or if there are regular offenders, perhaps we would be wise to think more carefully about developing mechanisms to deal with it. Hi Curt, I'm sure that I am not the first person on the receiving end of trash on mp. I have seen pilots attacked before, and the the best thing I could do was notify the recipient of the ignore function, which works good as a defense after an attack has taken place. I don't think we need anything too advanced, but some sort of preventative measure is necessary to keep a calm, welcoming multiplayer environment. I think that storing chat logs would be a good start. I don't know that the logs would have to be stored publicly, though. Possibly we could set up a email such as ab...@flightgear.org, where pilots could email a report in that specifies the time and other details about the abuse that took place. The report handler could then go to the chat log, jump to the time that the abuse occurred at, and read the logs until they come across the abusive messages. They could then identify the sender of those messages by their IP, and block that IP from connecting to the server network. This wouldn't be as complicated as a account system, but just as effective. I would also like to thank everybody for showing that they care. I can already tell that we are going to make much greater progress than I would have on the forums. I am really glad that everybody is willing to get to a solution and compromise on what we can do to make flightgear as great as possible. [Flightgear-devel] Ridding Multiplayer of Abusers
Hi Everybody, I recently was on Multiplayer, flying with a friend, minding my own business, when another pilot asked a general newbie question: Where can I find the Nimitz?. In only good intent, I replied: Look around the Golden Gate Bridge, you'll find it eventually. The pilot then proceeded to criticize my short answer(typing long detailed replies isn't easy when you're trying to land on a carrier), and soon began insulting me, using foul, profane language, and finally proceeded to threaten to come to my house and kill me and my family.(I'm 68 and I even learned some things!) I honestly don't know what his motivation to say such hurtful things was(maybe he was fed up of not getting the perfect answer he was looking for), but I realized from this that multiplayer is in bad need of some sort of general administration. This is not the first 'negative' encounter that I have had with other pilots, and I have seen other innocent pilots verbally abused. I have an idea for how an account system could be rigged for multiplayer: We could make a mysql database (to store usernames and passwords securely), then we'd simply implement a php script on all the mp servers that would check for the submission of a username/password, and it would scan the database for matches. When it finds a match, it would allow you to connect to the server. Username/Password could be implemented into fgrun. And for command line users it could look something like this: --username=jack --password=123abc We could then only allow one account per IP address(perfectly possible, the forum software we're using right now has an option for that!), and when a user acts up, they're account could be suspended accordingly based on the magnitude of their offense. For moderators, a group of respected and trusted users could be elected, or a report system could be rigged, and logs of mp chats could be stored for later reference. This is merely my two cents. I'd really like to get some feedback to see what everybody else thinks about this, especially from the server maintainers. I've introduced my idea to the forums, and mostly gotten positive feedback. I have gotten some negative responses concerning this, but most with weak arguments such as Just ignore them or They'll go away if you don't respond. I am not so much concerned for my own sake, but for the sake of that 11 year old boy that flies online and has yet been exposed to profanity, foul language, sex content, and threats such as one killing your family. [Flightgear-devel] A simple(but important) GIT question (Jack Mermod)
Ok, so I've been working on the harrier a lot, and would like to commit what I have so far into GIT. How do I do this? [Flightgear-devel] A dumb GIT question
Hi everybody, I recently downloaded all the GIT data, and was wondering where I can get the fgfs program(launcher) for git itself? I'm trying to understand the whole git thing but am a little confused. Do I have to learn terminal to use git? What does it mean to make a build? You may have to(quite literally) draw me a picture.
