Re: [Flightgear-devel] A useles philosophical observation
?Actually I think it remains useful even without getting into specifics. In order for suspension of disbelief to trick the human brain into thinking a simulation is plausible, there has to be a consistent level of representation of the real world, whether that's a low level, intermediate, or high. If you stick a blocky, flat-textured object into a near-perfectly rendered landscape, suddenly it becomes unbelievable, you cannot pretend any more that it is real. Likewise a perfectly rendered aircraft against a blocky, flat-textured landscape for example. It's the incongruities which jar. The trick is to try to take everything up to the next level at the same time, but clearly unless you're prepared to hold everything back for a major synchronised release every 2-3 years, that's not going to happen. So really, this general principal is more important (philosophically) than the detail of specifically which points are currently considered weak. They were probably state-of-the-art when they were first implemented, just as it happens, they out of sync with the rest, and will surely catch up (or overtake!) in the normal course of development. Re: [Flightgear-devel] A useles philosophical observation
Hi, Maybe I missed something, but as I had understand, Local Weather system and water shader are still in developement. The water shader isn't even yet in GIT. When you came up with saying weak points I thought you are talking about developement in other parts than graphics. For me weak points are definitly to find in YASim model. We had once a time when people demand for better graphics. Now we are able to have this, so it doesn't wonder me that he developement on this is going stronger than on other parts. I'm sure that will change again- developement is sometimes goin on periodically. Cheers heiko I was thinking about the handling of wind and the rendering of some cloud types in the local weather system. Both have already been discussed in the forum topic about the local weather system. As far as the water shader is concerned, it would be great if the results would depend more on the type of water (i.e. ocean, river, lake etc.), but that has already been discussed as well. I hope the water shader will be in git soon... I had nothing new to add. Let's just say I was impressed by progress and felt the urge to vent my emotion. m Op 25-09-10 12:35, thorsten.i.r...@jyu.fi schreef: I was experimenting with the new water shader and local weather, and I could not help myself thinking how sad it is, that the more perfect the simulation gets, the more noticeable the remaining weak points become. [Flightgear-devel] A useles philosophical observation
I was experimenting with the new water shader and local weather, and I could not help myself thinking how sad it is, that the more perfect the simulation gets, the more noticeable the remaining weak points become. Despite that, I am very very happy with the water shader and with local weather. Keep up the good work! Sorry to bother you all, but I felt I had to show my appreciation of what is being done... m -- Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev ___ Flightgear-devel mailing list Flightgear-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/flightgear-devel
