The package of tree photographs is here

http://users.jyu.fi/~trenk/files/trees.tgz

I will leave this online for about a week for grab. Let me know if photographs
taken that way are useful or not, I am just trying out things.

Hi Thorsten,

I'm certainly interested, so send them my way if no-one else has
already expressed an interest.

[Flightgear-devel] Tree images for texturing

2013-05-09 Thread Renk Thorsten

I have a series of tree photographs if anyone is interested in creating new
tree textures.

The images are 1200x1600 JPEG, taken on an overcast day in diffuse light,
outlining the trees against the bright sky, isolated as good as possible
against the background. I've experimented with different exposure times ranging
from 1/60 to 1/200.

I have bare birches and alders, as well as pine and spruce (= a typical central
Finland selection). I have tried to get genuine forest trees, as trees growing
in isolation have quite a different growth pattern (in forest trees, the lower
branches tend to die off and only the crown is green), but this is tricky for
obvious reasons.

My impression is that some photoshop/gimp postprocessing is needed to create
suitable textures - if anyone is interested in having a go, please get in touch
for the package.
