Re: [Flightgear-users] Scen2ry problem
The only thing I can think of is that you installed the scenery in a different location (outside of fg-root perhaps) and used the --fg-scenery=/path option to point to it, then a day or two later forgot about that option and now you are back to the default scenery That's the only plausible explanation I can think of unless you actually did change something in between time. Regards, Curt. Jan Polcher writes: Hello, I played around for a few days with the USGS based scenery in places other than SFO. It worked just fine. Then I decided to switch to the VMap0 scenery just to get more details on the ground. This worked also fine when I tested it right after the installation, I noted the roads and other extra details. But a few days later when I tried it again I could not get anything for areas outside SFO (The only region which I did no change) except for water (I am pretty sure that I did not change anything in the FlightGear files !). I then decided to switch back to the old scenery, which did not help in any way. When ever I go outside of the SFO area I am on the ocean. I compared the two directories in which I keep the sceneries and they have the same structure, the same number of file. The only difference is that for VMap0 the files are larger. My question is thus what I did wrong and secondly how could it work one day and then not the next one ? Thank you very much for your help. Re: [Flightgear-users] Scen2ry problem
Hi Eric, Thank you very much for the idea but I still have both directories. I have tried to move one or the other into the $FG_HOME/Scenery but it did not change anything. I have also tried with the option --fg-scenery to swith between $FG_HOME/Scenery and $FG_HOME/Scenery_new but that did not help either. In the log fgfs spits out the difference is that : -Over SFO, between the end of the tile loading and the beginning of the FDM initialization (Finally initializing fdm) I have token = OBJECT_BASE name = 942050.btg Creating a new buffer of size = 32768 Creating a new buffer of size = 32768 token = OBJECT name = KSFO.btg resizing buffer to size = 131072 load() base = /usr/local/FlightGear/Scenery_new Loading tile /usr/local/FlightGear/Scenery_new/w130n30/w123n37/942041 load() base = /usr/local/FlightGear/Scenery_new Loading tile /usr/local/FlightGear/Scenery_new/w130n30/w123n37/942049 token = OBJECT_BASE name = 942049.btg token = OBJECT name = KHAF.btg -Over CDG there is nothing between both. It is clearly the initialization of the airport which is missing ! That happens with $FG_HOME/Scenery or $FG_HOME/Scenery_new. Thank you very much for your help. CVS removes obsolete directories (including your freshly installed scenery). Could that be the problem? Re: [Flightgear-users] Flight Gear Tutorial
This is great stuff. I'm including this .pdf in the flightgear RPM packages I'm maintaining, in a subpackage called flightgear-doc. These should be included in the next version of Conectiva Linux in case anyone is interested. Re: [Flightgear-users] Abandoned Little-Known Airfields
[snip...] Lincolnshire and East Anglia are *full* of disused airfields - some that haven't been used in nearly 50 years, others that were only abandoned a few years ago. 'full' is almost the right word - I'm in that area (Herts/Essex border) and I can think of three closed/abandoned ones within ten miles of me that I explored as a youngster, and I was told there were a couple more that I hadn't known about. The runways had mostly been ploughed under and most of the brick buildings had been demolished and bull-dozed into heaps but there was a lot of reinforced concrete stuff that would've required explosives, and a lot of it, to break it down. I found a large flat mushroom shaped thing at one of them and I've been told that it was an air-raid shelter - apparently it was set low above the ground and the idea was to roll under it in the event of being caught out in the open in a raid. It had a couple of gouges/rough grooves in the top surface that looked, to my eyes, like it had been caused by cannon fire. I've been told that it was mainly Liberators flying out of these fields. Re: [Flightgear-users] Flying... But no sound
I have on occassion had no sound for flight, but did have the intro music. Each time that has happened (twice), I exited and restarted FlightGear. I think I may have started FlightGear too soon after boot. I wish I had more for you, but I am no expert on Linux. It took me two weeks to correctly compile FG, and another two days to get sound! But I tell you, it was the most fun I have ever had! - Original Message - From: Rick Bradberry [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 17, 2003 5:28 PM Subject: [Flightgear-users] Flying... But no sound All, I am now flying after cleaning up the GL lib files and remaking FlighGear. So I 90% happy. My problem now is the sound is not working. The startup sound works, but no sound during flight. Looking back through the thread i've tried: Remaking after configure --with-thread=no cat /bin/ls /dev/audio -- I do not have a /dev/audio however cat /bin/ls /dev/dsp dumps out the most awful noise you ever heard fuser /dev/dsp does not show any process attached. in the stderr output I found: Try suspending the arts sound server through the KDE Look and Feel configuration tool. Make sure auto-suspend is checked and suspend after 5 seconds is the time for suspension. KDE will always have the sound card busy if you do not do this. Good Luck, Mike Thanks Mike. Tried setting the suspend to 5 seconds and still no sounds from FG. However it did turn off the sound for my desktop. Any other good ideas of thing to look at?
