[Flightgear-users] why *.stg files in terrain database? can I use *.flt files?
Hi, I am using fligthgear 0.9.4. I am having three queries. 1. For scenery database I have downloaded flightgear world scenery which is in *.btg file format.I would like to know why *.btg files are called within *.stg file. 2. Can I use Multi Gen creator which gives *.flt files to model the terrain and objects.Whether flighgear can import *.flt files? 3. What are the file formats supported by fligthgear. regards, deepha ___ Flightgear-users mailing list Flightgear-users@flightgear.org http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/flightgear-users 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d

TerraGear contains the tools required to make FlightGear compatible scenery and I know of no other application that can do it. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Let me add that FlightGear is built on top of plib/ssg so FlightGear can load all the 3d model formats supported by ssg (ssg supports some formats better or more completely than others.) However, for the base terrain. FlightGear expects a specific tiling scheme and specific coordinate system to work. It is unlikely that you can get pre-existing .flt terrain files to work well, unless you are only flying in a limited area. For what it's worth, I have a project I'm involved with where I may need to go the other direction and generate .flt format files from FlightGear tiles. (You can do this from the AI-ATC menu entry, but will then have to wait a bit longer for the traffic to appear). If you tune in to a towered airport, you should then hear (see!) the dialog, and if you communicate with the tower as well you may to asked to land following one of them, or to go around landing too close behind one. It's all a bit, erm, beta ;-), and has been known to crash the sim (hence the disablement by default). You won't see AI GA traffic at KSFO in order to avoid a clash with Dave/Durk's airliner models. I can't remember offhand if they're enabled at KOAK or KSJC, but KRHV, KLVK, KHWD and KSQL are all good places in the base package to see them. KHAF is untowered so none there. I've seen them at KOAK, but why does KHAF have a tower in scenery if it has no tower in reality?
