image menu - mode - select RGB colour if not already ticked and 8
bits/channel
..then again it might not...if it doesn't let me know.

nope! it was already set to rgb + 8 bit - i turned off the colour
management but i get really bright colours, even on the web compat. settings
red looks pink(ish)

Can you set your monitor profile to the same color profile as the cd
tiffs use? s-rgb-xxx or other
I know that for printing you have to save the colors as CYMK for them to print
correctly. Doing that made a big difference printing my magazine. Occaisionally that
changes the image onscreen a little but I don't know what to about that.
Of course, I don't know what that means when dealing
the epson inks (much
more expensive) produced nice vibrant colors for me.

Try to have a look at your ColorSync-Settings in the Control Panels (if
you use a Mac).
