Re: New FOP release?

2002-05-15 Thread L Rutker
Sadly this is the reason the project I was with dumped FOP in favor of a
proprietary pdf output solution, one that is sadly very inferior to FOP in
capibilities and standards (no its not renderx but an other reporting
package that has PDF output.

I had another phone call with a major governmental institution. They
would love to go the FO way if its future was not so blurred, we would
even contribute to some code (I need line numbering in) and fix bugs.
If only we has some visibility. Currently, my choice is RenderX (but
this institution does not like getting locked into a small company) and
a traditional proprietary solution (e.g. 3B2, Compuset). I would love to
be able to tell them : in 6 months time the redesign will be finished,
windows/orphan, keep-with-next and, I don't know, landscaped
block-containers will be working.

Re: New FOP release?

2002-05-14 Thread L Rutker
I have asked the question more than once in the past.
No one on this list seems to know anything about the development / rewrite
of fop.

I wish you luck with your search but I doubt you will find an answer on this
list.

propose

2) I understand that everything related with XML (XSLT/XSL-FO) has a modern
flavour that few techies can resist, but what are the objectives reasons ?

3) Are they any advantages to FO being integrated with XSLT that the
proprietary tools would not have ?

Consider that once you data is in XML you can use that same data to produce
PDF, HTML VoiceML (for you automated telephone system) or SVG graphical
representation of the data by just changing the stylesheet using XSLT. No
need to have multiple unsynced data sources for your different output
requirements

I know there is a supposed refactoring/rewriting going on for FOP.
Is this really happening?
Does anyone know of target dates?
Thanks

Refactoring / Rewriting of FOP? Obsolete?

2002-04-19 Thread L Rutker
Hi,
My manager just nixed the use of FOP in our project for the following
reason.
a) Its only up to 0.20.3 meaning an early beta.
b) He is under the understanding partly based on what he saw on the FOP site
that the code is being rewritten from scratch and he therefore does not want
to have us tied to an obsolete product.

My question is
a) How true is this?
b) How can I convince him that it is worthwhile to use it.
The product did work nicely in our testing by the way.

I cant send the one we are using as of now but it is basically a modified
subset of the antenna house one.

Could you share your XSL file for XHTML-PDF you have developed for FOP?
This would be a great help. Do you have any other formats for XHTML?
(TXT, PS etc.) Thanks much in advanced.
