Yes I did understand what you wrote, and the earlier correspondent. I was attempting to ask why. It seems illogical to treat many small documents as one large one. Changing 1.0 - 1.1 : Is there a cache file
I presume this is to be expected, but I'd appreciate it if someone would confirm it is correct. I've been using fop 1.0 for a while and I've just tried running 1.1. I find that the first time I run 1.1 I get a lot of font related diagnostic (INFO) messages. Subsequent runs don't do this, just giving a few messages. RE: Default XSL Stylesheet for PDF?
why does the tool have no default style sheet to use? I would expect it to set margins at 1.00 inch (or 2 centimeters), etc. FOP (*) is passed a single file to process. This known as XSL-FO. (or often just FO) It contains all such measurements. The stylesheet is applied during the preparation of the FO file. This is not (**) done by FOP but by another processor, eg xsltproc, Saxon, Xalan. Such programs do also take a stylesheet as parameter, and combine the stylesheet data with the source data (eg DocBook). The output is XSL-FO (or html, or various other possibilities). The stylesheet that is used to produce the XSL-FO contains the default margins etc that you refer to. It writes these into the FO. Hope that help, Richard. (*) Or any other FO processor (ie XSL-FO to PDF convertor). (**) Actually I think FOP can be requested to do this process too, but is not usually used in that way. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: fop-users-unsubscr...@xmlgraphics.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: fop-users-h...@xmlgraphics.apache.org

FOP does .fo - .pdf It isn't involved in printing the pdf. I suspect there's another, non-fop, part of your process that prints the pdf. Find out what it is and call it without fop being involved. Saying it is not possible with fop to do that is a bit like saying it is not possible to use Internet Explorer to make tea, or it is not possible to use a car to paint the house. RE: Using draft images with fop, and catalogs.
I don't particularly want to use base. Up to now I've been the only person here using FOP. I have my own local paths hard-coded into various batch and configuration files I'm using. I am now trying to rearrange my project so other members of my team might use it. They may have some of the files at different places locally. What I want to do is minimize the number of different places they need to insert their own paths. And using the Catalog mechanism seems like a useful way of collecting together this type of information, at least as far as the two main Java programs (Saxon and Fop) are concerned. I am now using Saxon in this way and would like, if possible, to use Fop likewise. Over on the docbook-apps list Bob Stayton has advised me that there is some way of doing this in Fop. I'd apprecitate it if anyone could post an example of how to modify fop.bat to get this sort of functionality. Appreciatively, Richard. -Original Message- From: Andreas Delmelle [mailto:andreas.delme...@telenet.be] Sent: 04 February 2009 17:40 To: fop-users@xmlgraphics.apache.org Subject: Re: Using draft images with fop, and catalogs. Do I need to tell the XSL stylesheet to change the format of what it inserts in the FO ? Or do I need to tell FOP that it's a URL/URI and to use the resolver ? Nothing special to do with the stylesheet, URIResolvers or CatalogResolvers, IIC. FOP recognizes 'url(images/draft.png)' as a relative URI, but will resolve it using the current working directory as the base[*], unless you use a configuration file when running FOP. See also: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.95/configuration.html In short: if you use the configuration to set the 'base' option, that will be the base for all relative URIs encountered in the FO document. If you would set it to 'file:///C:/DocBook/docbook-xsl-1.74.0/' then you should get the same effect as specifying the absolute URI you started with. [*] Note: there is an open Bugzilla entry ( https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=46566 ) concerning resolution of font URLs, where it is mentioned that it would probably be better in line with the related RFC to use the base URI of the document/config file. All well and easy if that actually exists as a file somewhere. As soon as the XML only exists as a stream or a LOB on a database, this will be next to impossible. HTH! Using draft images with fop, and catalogs.
I am using Saxon and FOP to generate PDF files from DocBook. And I'm using a draft image. My customized stylesheet for DocBook-FO includes a value for the parameter draft.watermark.image. It is currently the full local path to the draft.png file that I am using (ie somethiing like C:/DocBook/docbook-xsl-1.74.0/images/draft.png) I would like to change it to be a url (or is it a uri), probably using the catalog resolving mechanism that is available in Saxon using the -x, -y, -r, -u qualifiers. I notice that at the moment the filename value appears in the FO file in the form url(images/drft.png) when I set draft.watermark.image to images/draft.png in my custom xsl file. Thus I presume that the stylesheet is just copying over the parameter value and putting it in url(). Can someone advise how to go about doing this. Draft Mode background image - should it work in off-the-shelf fop ?
I've recently been trying to produce a draft version of a document, originating in DocBook. I am now reasonably confident that fop can read draft.png from SourceForge. Initially it was failing to do so but since I've told Java to use a proxy (using -Dhttp.proxyHost and -Dhttp.proxyPort) it's stopped complaining that it can't. However, I am not seeing the background watermark, nor any 'Draft' strings in the corners which I think I've read should be there. Should I expect all this to happen with an off-the-shelf Fop 0.95 ? The documentation suggests there may be some extra downloads needed for graphics functionality but this shouldn't be an issue for the 'Draft' strings in the corners should it ? Is it an issue for the watermark ? Uncetainly, Richard. RE: Re: Draft Mode background image - should it work in off-the-shelf fop ?
I'd already set draft.mode to 'yes'. I wouldn't have thought I was getting a draft mode document otherwise. And if I hadn't done so I'd not have seen the earlier error messages that were caused by not having the proxy set-up. I've tried referencing a local watermark image with no change in the results. Ie no watermark showing. Anyway, as I originally said the watermark shouldn't affect the Draft strings in the header. And - the documentation for draft.watermark.image says it's a URI; doesn't that mean it's not /path/to/local/image-file but file:///path/to/local/image-file (actually file:///C:/path/to/local/image-file.png as this is on Windows) Uncertainly, Richard. -Original Message- From: news [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of John Brown Sent: 19 September 2008 11:49 To: fop-users@xmlgraphics.apache.org Subject: Re: Draft Mode background image - should it work in off-the-shelf fop ? RE: Re: Draft Mode background image - should it work in off-the-shelf fop ?
OK, Sorry, end of panic. I'd messed up caling the stylesheet. Fop's behaving fine. If I tweak the stylesheet params I need to process it first - just calling Fop is not useful. Thank you for your attention, I'll go off and hide now. Appreciatively, Richard. -Original Message- From: Kerry, Richard Sent: 19 September 2008 12:14 To: fop-users@xmlgraphics.apache.org Subject: RE: Re: Draft Mode background image - should it work in off-the-shelf fop ?
