Please accept my apologies for the delay here, which was due to a
number of technical issues with our conference software, and key
volunteers being unavoidably busy at critical times. We hope to get
this resolved in the next couple of days and to notify everyone and
publish the schedule.

Hello Kristi,
when are you going to announce which proposals have been approved and which ones
have not been approved? Website says schedule announcement was due in June but
so far I haven't seen anything for my submissions.

GUADEC is the the largest annual gathering of GNOME developers and community
members and will take place this year in Thessaloniki, Greece between August
23rd – August 28th.
If you are planning to attend please register here
(https://blogs.gnome.org/guadecregistration/)

Parties with an interest in GNOME are strongly encouraged to attend. Travel and
accommodation information is available on the GUADEC website.

You can book and pay for your *accommodation* online during registration, which
helps to bring all attendees into one place. We highly recommend doing it as
soon as possible, since this accommodation is limited!
People who are sponsored from the GNOME Foundation please DO NOT buy it from the
website. Our team will arrange the accommodation for you.
Also do not forget to purchase your *Food package*, it’s under the category of
“Food and Entertainments”. This package will include the meals from 23^rd -28^th
of August.

In the following days we will provide more information regarding the ‘Day Trip’
and other activities that will happen during the event.

Please follow GUADEC on Twitter for frequent updates about the conference.
In case of any question please write to: guadec-organizat...@gnome.org

We expect to publish the complete program for the conference soon.

Hope to see you in Greece!

Best Regards,
Kristi

If you have registration at no charge, how about calling it "gratis",
to help people recognize the difference between that and free/libre?
This is a small change, it is clear, and it helps make the
distinction clear too.

I don't know the specific circumstances motivating this change, but for
context - individuals sponsored by the travel committee have been sent
a discount code which waives the registration fee at the checkout.

I was just discussing this exact topic with Eike from KDE e.V. as the
GNOME board has just been considering funding conditions/approval for
LAS. It sounds like the European non-profit handling of fees versus
donations is different (and more strict/complex) than my understanding
of how this works for GNOME. I might be mistaken however. :)

In previous years, the registration fee was structured as a donation
rather than a mandatory purchase. Rumor has it this was to avoid a
repeat of the tax problems from the last desktop summit. Seems
important to make sure this change won't be problematic.

Could you explain why the catering is so expensive?

That comes to about 18€ a meal, which is pretty expensive for any type
of university accommodation (or even a brasserie somewhere in a
touristy part of Paris for that matter).

I also noticed that the "free" registration option went away. Is that
on purpose?

Cheers
