Master Page variables and conditional text settings not being imported

I'm trying to import the above from one file to the rest of my files in a FM 8 book. All the files are open and the import does not report any errors. However the import does not work. I've even tried to just one file in the book, with no joy. Any ideas what is going wrong? Regards Mark Sent
