Hi,
You might try this: File > Print book, select PDF printer but choose
separate print job for each document.
Cheers.

Agreed. Neil is good. :)

I was so put off by RH in the previous version of Adobe Techcomm Suite that
I only upgraded FrameMaker last time around.

Off-topic a bit, and with the caveat that I haven't done this kind of work
in over a dozen years, but I found RH integration with FM to be lacking (a
couple of years ago I did play around with recent iterations of the
pairing). In a production environment, I found WebWorks ePublisher to be a

If it's as it always has been, if your new license is NOT an upgrade, you
can run it and the old license.
If your new license is an UPGRADE based on your previous software, then the
legalese says you can't run both.
However, in practice, both should install and run fine as far as I know.

Your use of Conditional text kinda scares me. ;) I try to keep conditional
simpler and about what content you want to include. I have found
FrameMaker's conditional text feature to have a complexity curve that is
J-shaped, and when you use more of it, the complexity suddenly starts to
rise
Just had an odd thing happen in FM 19 all patched up.
Made a couple of PDFs from my FM books, no problem. PDF bookmarks mirrored
the correct heading styles correctly.
Then, another book had all the wrong bookmarks.
I fixed the latter issued by using Format > Document > PDF Setup and then
Over the years, I've beta tested a few FrameMaker versions. I always test
on live projects, which I know isn't the best idea, but it gives me
information about how the beta works in the real world. Before the beta
concludes, I save my project files as MIF, so I can continue documenting in

Nevermind. I misread.

If the chapter isn't needed in the book, then exclude the chapter from the
book. No conditional tagging needed.

Hey,
It's been over a decade since I last worked on online help. I used to like
CHM because it was one file. However, even 10 years ago, CHM had fallen out
of favor -- I think because of security risks.
Back then, this was the approach to fixing it.
With documentation for a product that has a shelf life of 10-20 years, it's
a good idea to notify the customer of a revision because old versions of
PDFs always surface when you least expect it, and to no good end.

Doug,
I find it helps to require vendors use a specific version of software. In
this case, you have to go back to your vendor and ask for files you can use.
Traditionally, current FrameMaker versions have been able to save as .FM
one version older. So, FM 2019 can save as FM 2017.

How does that PDF output to print or to PDF from framemaker? Does it look
low res in the fm output?

Hi all,
Am looking around to review translation costs and quality.
My tools can be FrameMaker, Word, Flare, Illustrator, Photoshop, CorelDRAW
suite, and sometimes Camtasia.
Languages are all over, from Vietnamese and Simplified Chinese, to Spanish
and Protuguese, to possibly Farsi and Russian.
