I had the same issue after going from XP to Windows 7. I'm now at version
8.0p277 - system has been pretty stable since the update.

with 6 Gb of RAM.

HI All,
I have been struggling with this problem for a while too and always thought
that I just did not have enough memory.
In any case, now I have 3GB RAM and it still crashes too often.
FM 8 (p.277) from the Adobe Technical Suite 1.0 on a laptop, Windows XP, 32 bit
system, 2.53 GHz CPU, 3 GB
Because an embedded Visio uses Microsoft's OLE linking to embed the
visio file and Microsoft broke the OLE code to Frame when it
introduced XP SP3 -- OLE in FM and a number of other applications was
disabled by the security fix -- you can find numerous posts in the
archives about this if you look.

If you want to do this real fast and easy, without
a script, install the demo version
FM 8 on PC, Windows Vista, 32 bit system, 2.38 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM.
And Frame is crashing WAY too often.
I'm running FM9 on PC, Windows7 Ultimate, 64-bit, 3,33GHz CPU, 24GB RAM, and the
FM crashes have over a period of many months been training me to stay away from
a few things. For instance, I

nimbly.
Today, e.g., the only FM files open were two document files, both under 200 KB,
no books or generated files. CRASH.

Brian, you're not stating what patch level you're running (Help
About p.number) -- you need to check that against the FM update page
on Adobe.com to make sure you're fully patched.

And one more kinda PS -- I've had trouble with current versions of
Frame opening and saving legacy documents.
If some of any of your files are FM7 files, I would think about saving
the 8 files back as MIFs to clean up any stray characters or bytes,
then opening and saving them as .fm files again.
Maker 8 introduced UNICODE, didn't it? Anyway, I found that it was squirly
with text lines in graphics. Try to always use text frames instead. I think
this even bit me after fully updating.
