automatically insert file name in attribute

2008-11-13 Thread Mollye Barrett
I'm sure there must be a way to do this and I'm just missing it...

I'm working in Structured Frame 8 and want to automate insertion of file
names for referenced graphics and text insets into attributes for each of
those elements. The attribues are there and I don't want to do this all by
hand.

Can anyone make suggestions?

Re: Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi Flo

Rick Quatro's ChapterTOC Framescript is an ideal solution for this:

http://www.frameexpert.com/scripts/chaptertoc.htm

Surely, you can create "standalone TOCs" (aka miniTOCs or local TOCs) too,
but I find the ChapterTOC Framescript the only way to do this productively.

Kind regards

Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Christopher Seal
However, as the originator wants to have an overall TOC as well as section
TOCs, surely the parent book would have to be updated to make the overall
TOC correct?

I am in a similar situation, but trying to fix a document made by another.
In my case the section TOCs are created and inserted into a section page by
reference. The section TOC does not form a component of any book.

Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Christopher Seal
As the question relates to a document with continuous numbering I think that
the overall book should be updated first in order to get the page numbers
correct. Then the section TOCs can be updated. If a section is done first
how can it take into account page count changes in front of it?

well, Extensis provides plugins for Illustrator, InDesign and Quark. I wonder
if anyone thought of making one for Frame... Probably I should file a request

I am getting the following message from FrameMaker when attempting to open
a document to which we have recently added some Japanese characters:

Document named functions.fm is formatted with different font metrics (for
example, different character widths or kerning).
Does anyone have any idea what this means and how to correct it?

Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Flo Flosten
Hi list,

as I find it hard to search the archive, can anyone give an idea of how to make
section TOCs?

I use Frame 7.2. I have a book that consists of several parts, each part has a
number of chapters in it. I would like to have an overall TOC at the beginning,
with lets say two levels, and at the location where a new part starts, I'd like
to have a TOC for the section only which might then include three levels. The
whole book has continuous page numbers, i.e. the individual parts do not start
with page no. 1. Can you give any idea how to proceed without having a to copy
and paste items manually?

Thanks a lot, Flo

Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Art Campbell
Good question.

The numbering properties in the Section books need to be set to use
the existing value in the component files, a value that is set by the
parent book. But the parent book doesn't require an update action
because the page / figure / table numbers are dynamic in the component
files. The parent book would only require an update to refresh chapter
/ volume numbers if files are added or deleted.

I'm sure there must be a way to do this and I'm just missing it...

I'm working in Structured Frame 8 and want to automate insertion of
file names for referenced graphics and text insets into attributes for
each of those elements. The attribues are there and I don't want to do
this all by hand.

   Can anyone give me clue?

   Thanks,
Mollye

I use only referenced graphics and have no problems with them under XP SP3.

Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Art Campbell
Create small additional books containing the component files for each section.

Set up your section TOC and generate it.

In your parent book, add the section TOC in the appropriate spot.

When you update, remember that you have to update the section
"booklets" first so the TOC will be accurate.
You could automate this with FrameScript if you have it.

Marilyn,

This is the first time I've seen a reference to SP3 having any effect
at all on referenced graphics. Could you share your experience,
please?

It does create a problem with OLE objects in FM files because SP3
patches OLE security holes and breaks the embedded OLE links in FM
files. But that is quite different than referenced graphics.

Mif2Go: controlling graphics position

2008-11-13 Thread Jim Owens
I'm producing MS HTML Help, and currently trying to position the
graphics using Mif2Go.

In my Frame source, some graphics are anchored "run into para," and
others are anchored "below current line" (with the anchor at the end of
the paragraph). I want each "run into para" graphic placed beside the
para, to the right, and I want each "below current line" graphic placed
below the para, aligned with the left margin.

Accordingly I have added this instruction to the config file:

[GraphAlign]
; place "run-in" graphics to right of para
* = right

and, because I am using a CSS:

[Graphics]
GraphAlignAttributes = Yes

This aligns the "run-in" graphic as I want. But it also causes the
"below" graphic to appear to the right of the paragraph. (Without this
instruction present, it appears below the paragraph as expected.)

The HTML output for the "run-in" graphic is something like:

Paragraph text

The HTML output for the "below" graphic is something like:

Paragraph text

The "below" graphic is set outside the Paragraph text element.
However, it is not in its own element. This is true whether or not
the [GraphAlign] instruction is present, even if I explicitly set the
default:

[Graphics]
GraphWrapPara = Yes

How can I achieve the effect I want?

Re: Section TOCs

2008-11-13 Thread Christopher Seal
However, as the originator wants to have an overall TOC as well as section
TOCs, surely the parent book would have to be updated to make the overall
TOC correct?

I am in a similar situation, but trying to fix a document made by another.
In my case the section TOCs are created and inserted into a section page by
reference. The section TOC does not form a component of any book.

Thanks Syed, but just before I got your message I solved the problem. After
several hours of messing around with fonts, Windows, system restore, etc. I
happened to do a search on the laptop in question (Dell E6500) and found
that this is a known problem with drivers for recent NVIDIA graphics cards.
The solution is at http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/178.15.

Re: Can't open files - FM crashes!

2008-11-13 Thread Art Campbell

Leah,
Check to see if XP Service Patch 3 was installed. If so, uninstall it.
It will prevent you from being able to save Frame files with referenced
graphics (in XP).
Good luck.

EXTENSIS USERS?

2008-11-13 Thread Art Campbell
If you're using it to avoid font substitutions, it's unlikely to work
with FM because FM does its own font substitutions (which you can
control by editing the maker.ini file) and I think Suitcase tries to
work at the OS level --- so it's unlikely to know what's happening
inside each application.

* = right

and, because I am using a CSS:

[Graphics]
GraphAlignAttributes = Yes

This is true whether or not
the [GraphAlign] instruction is present, even if I explicitly set the
default:

[Graphics]
GraphWrapPara = Yes

How can I achieve the effect I want?

I did use several other dialogs that were indeed made wider to accomodate

You could use a Resource Editor like http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/
to resize your x-ref_main dialog box to accommodate longer names.

well, Extensis provides plugins for Illustrator, InDesign and Quark. I wonder

You could use a Resource Editor like http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/
to resize your x-ref_main dialog box to accommodate longer names.

Make a backup of fmdlg.dll in Program Files > Adobe > Framemaker >
fminit before you mess with it though!

Fonts won't install

2008-11-13 Thread David Boss
Thanks Syed, but just before I got your message I solved the problem. After
several hours of messing around with fonts, Windows, system restore, etc. I
happened to do a search on the laptop in question (Dell E6500) and found
that this is a known problem with drivers for recent NVIDIA graphics cards.
The solution is at http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/178.15.
