FrameMaker documentation

2014-12-19 Thread Klaus Daube
Can somebody please refresh my memory?

In http://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker69.html I say:
«
Getting Started guides: At least since FM-8 these guides have disappeared. It's
my
impession that newcomers are not considered a relevant group of users by Adobe.

User Guides: Until FM ??? you got a thick manual. Starting with FM-??? the box
only
contains a DVD with the program and help files have been dislocated from your
PC to
the web. The manual from FrameTechnology for FM-5 was 5cm thick (due to the
chaper-
page numbering the number of pages is difficult to get). Adobes manual for FM-7
has
660 pages. Obviously some information must have been streamlined - or left out.
Some
special information in separate online-manuals (e.g. concerning asian languages
or
customisation of FM) has not been put forwared to newer versions of FM.
»

What number I have to put in place of the ???
Are my statements in error generally?

Thanks
Klaus Daube

2014-12-19 Thread Steve Madison
In follow up to Klaus' comments about FM Getting Started guides, does anyone
have a recommendation on a decent learning resource on getting started with
FM12?

Re: FrameMaker documentation

2014-12-19 Thread Mike Wickham
Klaus, I got manuals with 7.0 and 7.1. They appear to be identical 7.0
manuals. I did not buy 7.2, so don't know on that one. 8.0 definitely
did not come with a manual, nor any of the versions since.

Re: FrameMaker documentation

2014-12-19 Thread David Spreadbury
FM12 ships with the User Guide in a chm. Complete User Guide. At least my FM12
did.Since then I have downloaded the PDF of the same version as well as the
"new and updated (ya, right)" version.

Klaus, I got manuals with 7.0 and 7.1. They appear to be identical 7.0
manuals. I  did not buy 7.2, so don't know on that one. 8.0 definitely
did not come with a manual, nor any of the versions since.

Re: FrameMaker documentation

2014-12-19 Thread Robert Lauriston
I believe the Asian-language doc for FrameMaker 7 was made obsolete by
support for Unicode added in FM8. It's online:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FrameMaker/8.0/chinese_korean.pdf

The newly revised FM12 docs cover that under "Asian language support."

Deleting Variables at the Book Level

2014-12-19 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Have you tried View->Pods->Variables at the book level with all files
open in the book? In the pod, select All Open Docs. Granted you can
delete only one variable at a time, but I find it really helpful to
see all of the variables for all of the files lined up alphabetically
and work through them that way.

Thank You Robert,

It turns out that the 'official' (by FM directly addressed pdf/html) contain
the
following proviously separate documents:

- Chinese and Korean Features (as of FM-7) [
- Japanese Publishing with Adobe FameMaker 7.0 [9 pages]

It seems that the previously separate information is completely integrated now
- on
various places (¶-formats, index, find etc.). But I have to check that in
detail to
give feedback to Adobe.

At least the availability of additional Japanese date building blocks (e.g.
<$daynumkanjikazu>) is not mentioned in the FM-12 user guide.

Have a nice day and also Merry Christmas
Klaus
