[Framers] Structured Adobbe FrameMaker 11 - HTML tag conversion Using xsl

2017-01-23 Thread George, Brenda
I posted the following issue to the W3 Schools Forum last week, but have not
received a response to date:

I work with xml files that are imported into Structured Adobbe FrameMaker 11
using an importing application that was created internally.

I am working with an xml documents that have html tags embedded in them. The
character entities that are embedded in the html need to be converted to tags:

For example, the following character entities are part of the html:

I need to perform these conversions
Convert '' to ''

Convert '' to ''

Convert '' to ''

I have successfully converted these 3 character entities in the DTD by adding
entity declarations. For example:

I will be receiving these xml documents frequently, and the html text changes,
so there will probably be additional character entities (beyond the 3 above)
that require conversion.

Is there another way to perform these character entity conversions without
having to add an entity declaration in the DTD for each one?

Thank-you for any assistance that you can provide.

Hi Brenda,

Attached is the configuration file for my CleanFiles.exe utility. You can
see how to set up multiple find/change sets in the cfg file, which is a
well-formed xml file. The cost for the utility is $80 and it allows you to
drag-and-drop multiple files and/or folders of files to process. It can also
be called from a command line. Please let me know if you have any questions
or comments. Thank you very much.

Heading 1: 16 pt bold, across all columns and side head
Heading 2: 14 pt bold, side head
Heading 3: 12 pt bold, in column
We sometimes go down to Heading 4, which is 10 pt bold italic, in column
Body text is 10 pt

May the Font Be With You.

2017-01-23 Thread Tammy Van Boening
Hi David,

Yep, that's typically exactly what I do . . . go down point sizes, and at
times, I have had to go down to H5s as well. (It was a brutally and
ridiculously deep app. w/ nested functionality!)

I might just take a riff on this . . . and let the chips fall where they
may.

Thanks!

Tammy -

In our "commercial" template, all headings are bold.

We start Heading_1 at 24 pt.  Heading_2 is 16 pt.  Heading_3, 14 pt;
Heading_4, 12 pt.

We go down to Heading_4 but not further although we are sometimes asked to

been sooo long since I have designed anything w/ all these required
bells and whistles. (I am more of plain Jane template kinda' gal, and want
to focus more on the technical content of big honking manual, but that's a
whole 'nuther story.)

That said, I have the following paragraph tags:

Chapter Title and Appendix Title, both 28 pt and the tags have a Reference
Graphic called TitleLine underneath them that is a single line done in a
corporate color and font for my client and of a preferred width. These tags
are used only on the first page of a chapter or appendix.

HeadLev1, which is used at the Top of the Page. It is 24 pt. and in the same

2017-01-23 Thread Tammy Van Boening
LOL Lise! If I had a magic sword, I would just wave it and make this all go
away. . . .

Thanks everyone. Yep, going down font sizes is definitely the standard and I am
trying to convince a new client that what they want for a manual works really,
really well for brochures and tech. notes, but not for a true technical manual
that will be very big. Sigh . . .

I am going down a font size or two and maybe either bold or a underline just
because I don't have the option of In Column vs. Sideheads, which is what I
seriously prefer. Cannot. . . get . . . them . . .to . . .budge . . .on . . . a
 . . .single . . .column . . . so . . .

Retirement is gonna' come sooner rather than later at this stage in the game.

Thanks!

Because I cannot have any sideheads in this template (a single text frame),
everything is In Column, so I can't make everything other than a Heading3 go
across columns/sideheads and keep the Heading3s just like Heading2s but make
them In Column instead (which is my usual approach).

Thanks!

Tammy,

We have decreasing font size for headers.

Heading 1: 16 pt bold, across all columns and side head
Heading 2: 14 pt bold, side head
Heading 3: 12 pt bold, in column

We sometimes go down to Heading 4, which is 10 pt bold italic, in column

Body text is 10 pt

May the Font Be With You.

Tammy -

In our "commercial" template, all headings are bold.

We start Heading_1 at 24 pt. Heading_2 is 16 pt. Heading_3, 14 pt; Heading_4,
12 pt.

We go down to Heading_4 but not further although we are sometimes asked to have
headings five.

Good luck

Hi All,

Working on a new template for a new client and my head is spinning. It's been
sooo long since I have designed anything w/ all these required bells and
whistles. (I am more of plain Jane template kinda' gal, and want to focus more
on the technical content of big honking manual, but that's a whole 'nuther
story.)

That said, I have the following paragraph tags:

Chapter Title and Appendix Title, both 28 pt and the tags have a Reference
Graphic called TitleLine underneath them that is a single line done in a
corporate color and font for my client and of a preferred width. These tags are
used only on the first page of a chapter or appendix.

HeadLev1, which is used at the Top of the Page. It is 24 pt. and in the same
corporate font in Regular weight and in good old black w/out any other
adornments and is In Column.

HeadLev2, which can start anywhere, is obviously used after a HeadingLev1, is
16 pt and the same corporate font Regular weight in good old black w/out any
other adornments and is In Column.

I will need at times to have a HeadLev3. . . not frequent, but needed. It needs
to be delineated somehow from HeadLev2. I am not really crazy about going down
a font size, unless maybe making it bold instead? Or do I keep it the same font
size as HeadLevel 2 and maybe put like a thin double-line underneath it?

I am just curious how y'all have made a distinct difference between Heading2s
and Heading3s w/out overdoing a Heading3.

[Framers] Adobe Illustrator re-installation woes and final success with Belarc

2017-01-23 Thread Ken Poshedly
For what it's worth, here's my personal endorsement of Belarc Advisor, the free
program that tells you just about everything on your computer.

In my case, I continued running a Windows XP platform as ordered by my
superiors because, for whatever reason, some FrameMaker files created by my
coworkers in Windows 7, just wouldn't reopen but I could open them on my
platform -- all of us running FrameMaker 11. Like they say, "Go figure."

So it was only last week when I was switched over to a Windows 7 platform. This
included copying my legally purchased Adobe Illustrator CS4 file folder to its
equivalent location from the old terminal to the new one. But AI wouldn't open,
citing problems locating licensing data. And to make matters worse, the
previous IT guy here is long-gone and had apparently disposed of the original
CD from Adobe which, of course, has the serial number.

I have the original invoice from the third-party vendor and even talked with
the guy, but he, of course, had not recorded my serial number (from its April
2010 purchase date). And Adobe has no record of the program being actually
registered.
Hey! I was just a tech writer here and had no say in how things like this were
done.
After various chat sessions last week with Adobe tech support in New Dehli and
even a phone call to corporate in California with no results or sympathy, my
new IT guy used Belarc Advisor on the old platform this morning and it provided
the AI product key (serial number).

A new (and long) chat session followed with a different (and apparently more
patient) Adobe tech support rep. The result was me being able to download the
replacement AI CS4 files and his waiting online while I did the installation on
my Windows 7 platform.

And yes, I made sure that this time, it IS registered and I'm keep the install
files and serial number in a secured location.

In this case, thanks to Adobe for finally coming through and to Belarc for
their life-saving product. (Oh, and if at all possible, either make a copy of
or don't release any original installation disks.)

I also endorse Belarc thoroughly ... it has given me information on a number of
occasions on license information that was invaluable.
