Change Bars
I have about 24 files in a book. Each file is from a word document, cleaned and saved as RTF. The FrameMaker template files ea RTF was imported into - they were all the same, copies of ea other. However, after importing ea RTF into ea FM file, some of the FM files displayed change bars and conditional text. Coming from the RTF, I gathered. I selected all of the text in every FM file, and changed all text to Unconditional. Then I ensured that the Change Bar setting was to OFF, and I clicked to clear all change bars -- in every FM file. However, in a couple of the FM files, the tables will still display a change bar when I edit the text. ??? Is there a separate (from the document) change bar setting for tables? ANN: X-Pubs 2007 Announces Strict Educational Case-Study Focus
X-Pubs 2007 is focused on delivering departmental managers and team-leaders educational case studies that illustrate the best strategies to adopt when rolling out an XML Content Management or XML Publishing solution. X-Pubs has brought together a speaker list unparalleled in the field of XML content management, both from leading independent consultancies and representatives from end-user organisations that have rolled out XML and DITA solutions. This year's speakers include: Michael Priestly - Lead IBM DITA Architect Steve Manning - Rockley Group co-Author of Managing Enteprise Content Scott Abel - Global Content Management Strategist Svante Ericsson - S1000D committee member Tim Voss - Documentation Manager, Schlumberger B. Noz Urbina, XML Content Management Consultant and member of the topic-review board for X-Pubs, said, This year's conference theme picks up where X-Pubs 2006 left off. Having already had world-leading consultants like JoAnn Hackos, Ann Rockley and Scott Abel explore and dissect the business case offered by XML Content Management and XML Publishing, the talks at X-Pubs this year will have the XML experts dig deep into their actual project experiences. People have been hearing about overview and benefits presentations on XML for years. They now want to know how to actually move forward while avoiding risk and minimising costs. Is the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) flavour of XML always the best option? How has it proven itself in complex situations? What lessons can be learned from S1000D and how do we best approach compliance? What return have other companies experienced after their roll-outs, and what surprises did they face? X-Pubs has pushed hard to make sure all presentations, even those from world thought-leaders in the industry, are pragmatic and example-based to provide real answers to these questions. This critical look at XML Content Management implementations, both in the Fortune 500 and small-to-medium enterprises, hopes to enable all attendees to make the right decisions for their situation. Dear Frame Users, On April 5th at 10:00 AM Pacific Time I will be joining RJ Jacquez in an Adobe on-line eSeminar demonstrating the return on investment (ROI) that FrameMaker brings when documents have been converted from Microsoft Word. ENLASO has documented many areas of time/cost savings, which are multiplied in multi-lingual projects. Feel free to share this invitation with co-workers and acquaintances that are still using Word, but have document size and content which warrants an upgrade to FrameMaker. A significant number of Microsoft Word users create large technical manuals that challenge the limitations of Word and would be better suited for FrameMaker. Multiple-page tables, a high number of embedded graphics, and cross-references to external documents are among the features in large Word documents that can add time and cost to translation projects. (no subject) - deleting condition tags from books
Hi Earl There might be a plug-in, but I can't remember its name. But failing that: The simplest, unless your book is long: make a new book file. The next simplest: back up the book file, then save the book file as MIF, open the MIF in a text editor, search for the unwanted condition tags in the Condition Catalog, and delete them out of the catalog. The syntax in the MIF file is pretty human-readable. Make sure you've deleted the condition tags from ALL files that the book or any file in it references - including generated lists and text insets. Otherwise your unwanted conditions just come back. Cheers, Rebecca >>> "Earl (Esar) Rudnikoff" 25/03/07 22:08 >>> Deleting conditional text settings I have deleted all the conditional text settings no longer in use but my book file still has the settings appearing in Show/Hide. Does anyone have an idea how to delete the Conditional text settings from a book file? In the Find Character Format dialog, first use Shift+F8 to set all properties to As Is (gray X's in options, empty list boxes) then click the Change Bars option to change the X to black. But be aware that FrameMaker has some long-standing bugs relating to searching for text in tables. My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel. You can search on this attribute. It won't solve what cased it, but it will let you move forward. Grant

Change Bars
If all else fails, ESC-C-H toggles the change bars manually. --W Ridder, Fred wrote: > You do it via the Character Format option in the Find box. > In the Find Character Format dialog, first use Shift+F8 to > set all properties to As Is (gray X's in options, empty > list boxes) then click the Change Bars option to change > the X to black. > > But be aware that FrameMaker has some long-standing > bugs relating to searching for text in tables. > > My opinions only; I don't speak for Intel. > Fred Ridder (fred dot ridder at intel dot com) > Intel > Parsippany, NJ > > > > -Original Message- > From: framers-bounces+fred.ridder=intel.com at lists.frameusers.com > [mailto:framers-bounces+fred.ridder=intel.com at lists.frameusers.com] On > Behalf Of John Pilla > Sent: Monday, March 26, 2007 11:42 AM > To: Grant Hogarth > Cc: Framers at frameusers.com > Subject: RE: Change Bars > > Thanks, however: > How do I search for a change bar as an attribute using Finf/next (Ctrl + > > F)? > > ~ John ~ Sr. Learning Specialist, > Educational Services MRO Software, (An IBM Company) > Phn: +1.781.280.2003, Fax: +1.781.280.2201 John.Pilla at us.ibm.com > > Maximo 5 Certified, Maximo 6 Certified EAM > Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management > > > > > > What might be worth checking is whether any styles (or overrides) have > the change bar attribute set. The "eng" character displays incorrectly
I am copying and pasting translated text (Luganda) from Microsoft Word into FrameMaker (Windows). One of the characters in the text is not pasting into Frame correctly. In Word, the character is identified as follows: Unicode (hex) 014B Symbol subset: Latin Extended-A It appears as a "merged r and j" - basically an "n" with a tail. An image appears on this webpage link: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/014b/index.htm Does anyone know how to get this character to appear in FrameMaker? -- Donna Fulcher Technical Document Specialist SCHARP dfulcher at scharp.org (206) 667-7503
ANN: "ROI when migrating from Word to Adobe" Adobe eSeminar April 5th
Dear Frame Users, On April 5th at 10:00 AM Pacific Time I will be joining RJ Jacquez in an Adobe on-line eSeminar demonstrating the return on investment (ROI) that FrameMaker brings when documents have been converted from Microsoft Word. ENLASO has documented many areas of time/cost savings, which are multiplied in multi-lingual projects. Feel free to share this invitation with co-workers and acquaintances that are still using Word, but have document size and content which warrants an upgrade to FrameMaker. Seminar description and registration URL Link is listed below: "Increase ROI when migrating from Word to Adobe? FrameMaker?" with special guest Maxwell Hoffman, ENLASO Learn about real-life case studies from ENLASO (Enterprise Language Solutions) that demonstrate return on investment when migrating from Microsoft? Word to FrameMaker. A significant number of Microsoft Word users create large technical manuals that challenge the limitations of Word and would be better suited for FrameMaker. Multiple-page tables, a high number of embedded graphics, and cross-references to external documents are among the features in large Word documents that can add time and cost to translation projects.
