Long shot: browsers invoked by 'message URL'
Following on from previous discussion of FrameMaker's message client, I have another small issue that's bothering me. I'd better prefix this with an apology: I *know* that this problem is due to my using an ancient and obsolete version of FrameMaker (v 7 for Mac), but if I upgrade it will be very costly and also leave me with a Mac that won't run other software that is essential. Also, FrameMaker 7 for Mac does everything I need. Anyway... FrameMaker 7 for Mac seems to have an ancient version (2!?) of the Netscape browser embedded in it in some way I've not been able to fox out. This is launched for, for example, the online help. But, while PDFs created from FrameMaker 7 correctly ask the platform's preferences about what browser to invoke when a 'message URL' hypertext link is clicked, this ancient Netscape is invoked - and falls over - if the link is tested from the source FrameMaker document itself. Is there any way to change FrameMaker's behavior in this respect? And if anyone from Adobe reads this, I started with FrameMaker v 3 and dutifully bought upgrades until you guys obsoleted the product, so thanks for closing off the upgrade path. -- Steve ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Re: FrameMaker 9 keyboard weirdness
Sorry, Framers, I answered Lea offline, but in case anyone else is interested, here's how to do it (thanks to my super colleague, Stephane Hogue): 1. Open maker.ini C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\FrameMaker9\maker.ini 2. In the ClipboardFormatsPriorities key, move TEXT from the end to the beginning of the list =TEXT, FILE, OLE 2, EMF, META, DIB, BMP, MIFW, MIF, RTF, UNICODE TEXT 3. Save the ini file and restart FrameMaker. What a time-saver this little gem is! ~~Gay -- Message: 2 Date: Mon, 3 Oct 2011 12:40:21 -0500 From: Kelley, Lea Shannon lea.kel...@thyssenkrupp.com To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: Re: FrameMaker 9 keyboard weirdness Message-ID: e0ab35d435bca8468c0a78014ffa660103e26...@mdcxch08.na.ops.local Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Gay wrote: How do I change the maker.ini so Ctrl-V will paste text from Word? Re: screwy x-ref formatting
I haven't seen a response to this, so I wanted to comment that I have this happen in one particular book as well. But unlike John's experience where his entire xref turns blue, every time I regenerate, I lose the blue character formatting in some, but not all, of the xrefs. But when I close down the book and reopen it, all the xrefs are correctly formatted once again. A sample xref format would be X-refBlueFigure\ $paranumonly on\ page\ $chapnum–$pagenum I can't narrow the problem down to any specific xref format, and I confess that because reopening the book solves the problem, I haven't really pursued a fix. My system has 8 GB of RAM, so resources shouldn't be a problem. Very frustrating. It would be great if anyone can shed some light on this. I'm using Frame9 on Win7, fully patched. Carol At 11:00 AM 9/30/2011, you wrote: I have a simple x-ref that works fine in 7 books and screwy in an eight book. Blue$paratext /on page $pagenum usually produces the desired blue text for the title and plain text for the page number, but in the errant book the entire x-ref is blue. When I update the x-ref, it behaves properly. But when I update all x-refs in the book, it reverts to the all-blue look. ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com.
