Structured FrameMaker is an authoring tool, not a CMS.

It is impossible to recommend a CMS (or a CCMS) without knowing your
requirements.

RE: Keyboard shortcut to move into next footnote text flow?

2014-07-28 Thread Christenson, Pat
True but when you're using them for automation, it really doesn't matter. It's
only when you're the one doing all that keystroking that it's a pain. Which is
why I want to automate this (and other) processes.

I'm sorry that I cannot contribute to the specific query, but I feel I have to
point out that there are very few keyboard shortcuts in FrameMaker that do not
require multiple keystrokes. The average seems to be about 3.5 to 4 keystrokes.

My apologies if I'm using incorrect terminology.

When I start a chapter via importing from Word, there's a fair amount of
cleanup work I have to do re: footnotes. If my cursor is in a footnote and I
want to jump to the next footnote (not to the footnote's position in the main
text, but into the footnote text flow), is there a keyboard shortcut for doing
so?

I have been able to search for the next footnote paragraph tag, and while that
works, (1) it's multiple keystrokes, and more importantly (2) if the source
document was tagged inconsistently, the search will fail, jumping to a
subsequent footnote, meaning I still have to manually go through and fix the
outliers.

I can fix #1 via AutoHotKey. #2 is a sticky problem.

If there is a shortcut, I'm unaware of it, and if there is a better object to
search for than the paragraph tag, I'm also ignorant of that.

I know that many people say to avoid importing from Word, but when you have
chapters that have 200-400 footnotes and as many index markers, trust me, you
do NOT want to have to manually redo all of those...

Thanks in advance,

-Dan

P.S. FM12 (TCS5) on Windows Enterprise 64-bit, if it makes a difference.

Buying and implementing a CMS is a business decision: it is not a retail
decision. You need to understand your requirements, your needs, your
staffing and resources limitations and requirements, in order to choose a
CMS. Not all businesses are the same; everyone has different purposes and
needs. You have to do the work. There are no shortcut answers.

Help with re-install on new laptop

2014-07-28 Thread Jenny Hecker
Hi, I'm trying to install my existing version of Adobe TCS 3 on a new laptop.
Our IT group installed TCS, then I installed Mif2Go according to its
directions. Then I tried to open FrameMaker for the first time. I got the
Licensing has expired message. I ran the TCS3 update patch. I see this:
Error loading Updater workflow. Can anyone shed light on this? I tried for
almost an hour to ask the question on the Adobe forums, but it keeps kicking me
out before I finish typing the question. I am frustrated

Thanks,
Jenny Hecker

FrameMaker 10 failed globally on January 1, 2013, apparently due to a
time bomb inadvertently left in the source code.

To their credit, Adobe quickly released a patch. Unfortunately, the
early point of failure and cryptic error message provide no clue about
the root cause, nor directions to take corrective action.
