[Framers] Htmlhelp CHM default window size

2016-06-22 Thread Rob Wallis
Hi Framers,
Your collective community is my last hope. I'm using FM 13, and cannot seem
to set a default window size for my compiled html help files. They all come
out small, and do not retain the set size after closing.
We migrated away from using WebWorks to produce our help files when we
upgraded to FM 13, but one drawback seems to be not being able to set this
size in a configuration file.
FrameMaker has default templates it uses to construct dynamic config files
on the fly (from what I understand) and it seems to ignore the values in
the default templates.
Does anyone know where I can set the values for 'window' contained in
RH_DEFAULT_PROJECT.hhp, or where I should put one of my own to use.

Cheers
Rob

Re: [Framers] Unusual C-Acute Accent

2016-06-22 Thread Tino H. Haida
Hi Karen,

I checked with FM 2015 on PC:
The glyph palette shows more characters, that is true, but only
characters that really are part of the font have a correct wysiwyg
preview.
If you click on the "ć", a question mark is shown in the text, which is
the expected result.

As far as I can tell, you should "upgrade" the Helvetica font... It will
be a little bit more expensive, but it is the best way to have a
consistent design throughout all different languages.

Best regards -- Tino H. Haida, Berlin

Re: [Framers] Unusual C-Acute Accent

2016-06-22 Thread Karen Robbins

Hi Tino,

Hm, that's interesting. On the Mac side, it does
contain all the glyphs. And in the FM Character
Palette, it looks like they are there as well
(definitely NOT there for the basic Helvetica, in
contrast).

I'll look into another (Pro) version for the PC
side. Would be a help with Greek characters,
too--I already had to add a special font for
those.

Thanks!

[Framers] ANN: TC Summer Camp!

2016-06-22 Thread Scott Prentice
You may have heard of TC Camp, the techcomm unconference, held for the
past 4 years in the San Francisco bay area .. well, we are taking it on
the road and holding a TC Summer Camp on Saturday, July 30 in the
Washington DC area! If you're in the area or within an easy drive (or
train) to Fairfax, VA, you might consider joining us!

If you're unfamiliar with the term "unconference," it's basically a
conference where the topics/sessions are defined by the attendees on the
day of the event. There are no presenters, but rather you gather at a
table with other like-minded people who want to discuss the selected
topic. We start the day with optional workshops run by techcomm
luminaries, then have the unconference in the afternoon.

TC Camp is free (mostly), and is a great day of learning, sharing, and
networking for techcomm professionals. You can learn more about camp at
our website ..

http://www.tccamp.org

For a quick overview of things, watch some interviews and videos from
past years ..

http://youtube.tccamp.org

Feel free to ask me if you have specific questions! :-)

If you provide services or products to the techcomm world, perhaps you'd
be interested in sponsoring! Because TC Camp is free (mostly) for
attendees, we rely on our generous sponsors to make it all happen.
Please contact me for details.

Cheers!

[Framers] BookComponentMIFWash.dll - ever any downside/risk ?

2016-06-22 Thread Monique Semp
Hello, Framers,

I believe that I can ease my template conversion project by “doing a MIF wash”
on a book before I begin the template import/revision process.

Now that I know much more than I did when I last rebranded these docs (~6 years
ago), and that the FrameMaker (2015) UI exposes much more info than before
(such as the Fonts pod), I’m finding remnants of fonts and styles that were
incompletely scrubbed during the last rebranding. I can manually take care of
them by text-editing the MIF file and then using FrameMaker to convert the
edited MIF back to FrameMaker. But my hope is that by MIF washing a book, I can
get rid of those ancient artifacts much more easily.

So my question is, is there ever a downside or unintended side-effect from
doing a MIF wash? I doubt it, but you never know...

(And, has anyone used the the FrameMaker-provided BookComponentMIFWash utility
(as discussed in https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1471039, for FrameMaker 11)
with FrameMaker 2015? I presume it’s valid because it’s in the expected
\Samples\ScriptsandUtilities folder, and I’ve successfully installed/registered
it and see the menu. But I haven’t tried it because I’m not quite sure how to
tell if it is running ok.)

Thanks,
-Monique

Subject: [Framers] script library/catalog - not "sticky" ?

Hello, Framers,

It seems that every time I close and restart FrameMaker, the scripts that I’ve
added to the Script Library/Catalog (not sure if it’s a “library” or a
“catalog”; the menus/labels seem inconsistent) disappear, and I have to add
them again.

I don’t want these scripts to be Autorun, and there’s seemingly no way to get
them to be “registered”.

So is there a way to make these “Favorites” stay in the favorites list so I
don’t have to add them every time?!

Thanks,
-Monique
