FrameMaker is an old program and EPS is an old all-purpose kind of
format. It acts as an envelope for both vector and bitmap graphics,
without automatically converting vector to bitmap. If you want maximum
resolution on printing press, vector is preferable for line drawings
because it is infini
Adobe Illustrator will open eps easily and allow you to save as a variety of
formats. Best to save as .ai to have a good source file to work with, but your
target file can be any number of things. It's easiest if you stay with the same
source/target (you can't "lose" the source then).

I don't like to give people bad advice, especially when it involves
giving a big chunk of money to Adobe or Microsoft.

Lately, every time I'm tempted to waste brain cells pondering why people do
stuff the way they do, I go have a beer instead. I've been learning a lot about

Hi Nancy,
You can not save custom ruling and shading in a table format. You have to set
the ruling and shading in the Table designer. Or did you do that?

If the source is in EPS and you don't have the originals, or the EPS
files were created by somebody who thought that was a reasonable
source format, that explains the odd requirement.
It's kind of like having only PDFs and not the original source.

O
I am on the same page - I need to be able to work with an EPS source and
then convert to something else, which is why I was asking about the correct
tools.
Thanks all!

I'm still wondering why EPS is a requirement. That's not normally a
source format, and as an exported format there's not usually no reason
to prefer it to alternatives.

I'd also agree with this -- I'd open the EPS in Photoshop or Acrobat and
save as a PDF.
