Or maybe not. I found an answer that seems to imply having to use the
regedit:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/650106

Go into the Registry Editor to delete the cached credentials for Adobe.

   1. Type "regedit" in the Run dialog to open the Registry Editor.
   2. For Acrobat or Reader 9:
   1. Open the registry tree hive at HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software >
Adobe > *AdobeSynchronizer
  > 9.0 > Credentials.*
  2. Delete the registry entries that appear in the Credentials
register except for the default entry.
  3. For Acrobat or Reader 8:
   1. Open the registry tree hive at HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software >
Adobe > *Adobe
  Acrobat > 8.0 > Credentials.*
  2. Delete the registry entries that appear in the Credentials
register except for the default entry.

Ah, I see. I do have previous versions of the PDF, and can restore them. So
I did. But not surprisingly, this didn't help. The PDF is on my *local*
drive. The only thing on the network drive are the comment files (one folder
for each shared review doc, and in the folders are the XML files for each
reviewer's comments).

The problem is that when opening the PDF from my local drive, Acrobat is
supposed to connect to the shared review server, but all it displays is the
"Adobe Acrobat DC cannot connect to the Review Server: "
message. Acrobat refuses to display the dialog where I can actually enter
the password.

So there must be something else (outside of the specific PDF) that prompts
Acrobat to ask for server connection credentials. No matter which shared
review PDF I try to open, even ones that I haven't used in a long time, I
have the same problem.

But thanks for your suggestions,
-Monique

Can you restore the folder the PDF is in, to just before you mistyped the
password?

? I'm not sure what you mean? I can access the network folder via Explorer.
It's just that when in Acrobat it won't access the folder. The PDF itself is
on my local drive; it's only the comments (those XML files) that are on the
server.

Subject: [Framers] how to get Acrobat (shared review) to prompt for password
?

Hello, Framers,

Although not specifically a FrameMaker problem, I figure an Acrobat Review
problem is close enough...

I’m using Acrobat DC Pro, although I don’t think this problem is
version-specific (I believe I’ve had it before).

My shared review process has been working fine. But because of IT policy, I had
to change my passwords, including for accessing the network share\folder that’s
used to manage the shared review comments. When I opened a shared review PDF,
Acrobat did ask me for the password. Unfortunately, I mistyped it, and now I
cannot figure out how to get Acrobat to ask me again for the password so I can
enter the correct one. And so of course I can’t retrieve or publish comments.

How do I get Acrobat to ask me for the password?!

(I know there’s a way; I had this happen before. But I foolishly didn’t note
the answer, and I cannot find it now. I did try the “new use * /d” command,
which I thought fixed things before. I also tried stopping the Adobe
Synchronizer process and deleting the Collab and Synchronizer folders, but that
didn’t elicit the wished-for prompt.)

Any ideas?

Thanks so much,
-Monique
