Linking HTML files from FrameMaker source

2007-02-21 Thread Jaya Ghosh
Hello,

Can I create a hypertext from the source FrameMaker file to an html file in
a different location? If so HOW?

Please note the htmls are located in the product installation path and
varies from user to user.

I tried using the gotolink, message url et all nothing works as it seems
that FM converts the relative path to absolute path.

Help is appreciated.

Regards,

Jaya

You'll need a separate installer, but check with Adobe on a cross-platform
upgrade.

I've gotten these in the past they're a bargain compared to the cost of
retail copies.

Hyperlink in PDFs

2006-10-30 Thread Jaya Ghosh
Hello Framers,

I have a hyperlink related query. Any help related to the issue would help
me resolve the issue.

1. I have 38 books. Each book has 10+ chapters and each book resides
in individual folders.

2. Individual book pdfs are created and stored in their respective
folders.

3. When I open any pdf the hyperlinks work fine across all the books.

4. I use Quadraly Webworks to generate the htmls for the online
document set. In the online UI we have a pdf icon. Clicking the icon leads
to a page that lists all the manuals with a two liner description of the
manual. Clicking on the manual name opens its pdf format. This feature is
called the book case.

5. For the book case to work from the HTML UI it is mandatory that all
the individual book pdfs reside in a separate folder in the HTML Output
folder.

For example :

1. All my source files and individual pdfs reside in:

Share/ Doc:

ABD User'Guide

ABD Library Reference Manual

ABD SPD-PA Flow User's Guide and so on.

The above three are individual folders.

2. The HTML pages are in stored in the individual folders of each book:

For example:

Outpu/t:

ABD User'Guide

ABD Library Reference Manual

ABD SPD-PA Flow User's Guide and so on.

Pdf- this stores all the pdfs only.

When I open any pdf from 1. above all the cross-references and the
hyperlinks across books work fine.

When I open any pdf from 2. above all the cross-references work fine but the
hyperlinks do not as it is unable to locate the pdfs.

In the source files I created the hyperlinks using the gotolink hyperlink
option and provide the path of the source files. If I give the path of the
pdf location of the Output folder then the cross-references and hyperlinks
will not work in the HTMLs.

The workaround for this issue is to have a flat structure instead of the
hierarchical structure that I currently have.

I cannot have a flat structure because all the folder names and the location
are hard coded in the script when the build is made. This has been the
practice for along time and not possible to change.

So framers any suggestion from your end to resolve this issue without
changing the file folder structure? Please note this is not a Webworks issue
but a limitation of Adobe.

Any suggestions and workarounds would be appreciated.

Regards,

Jaya

Why should this hurt (non-fascist) Muslims' feelings? Shouldn't decent
Muslims be just as contemptuous of and outraged by these murderous
monsters as decent Christians, Buddhists, Hindi, atheists, and everyone
else whom they're trying to subjugate?

It was intended to clarify that my negative remarks about MIL specs

Why are you offended? Are you in favor of a totalitarian fundamentalist
Islamist state? Or are you one of those who believes we must be tolerant
of everything, even the execution by stoning of homosexuals and rape
victims, the extermination of Jews, the treatment of women as no better

1. How do I create a static H1 heading in FM so that when it is
converted to html the main heading remains in focus while one scrolls down
the page to browse through the contents/sub-headings in the specific
section?

2. Since some of the sections are very verbose am keen to create a
more.. or Top link to expand/collapse the sub and sub-sub-headings or to
move to the previous section in the file. How do I do this in FM?

3. How do I create bookmarks in FM files? Am aware that it can be
created in pdfs but not aware as to how it can be done in FM. Not sure
whether it will require a Bookmark plugin to create the same in a FM file.

Anybody out there using Automap?

2006-09-12 Thread Jaya Ghosh
Hello framers,

I FM 7.0 and to convert the manuals to HTML have recently started using
AutoMap. My queries are:

1. Is there an Automap users forum, if so can I have the link please?
I could not find anything on the net.

2. If one of you have used Automap then probably you cud answer my
queries.

3. Automap says it's a floating license. Currently we have single
license that is being by 3 writers. We have scheduled our job to ensure that
at a time only one job runs. Still face numerous problems that am not able
to debug. When a job terminates it simply reports unable to create project
or no free license available or all your license keys have expired, order
for more licenses from Quadralay or unable to deploy . Ours is an EDA
industry and we have about 5 products and each product has about 45 manuals
each. These errors occur randomly that is sometimes the project is created
fine with all the links and books working fine including the HTMLs and
sometimes it does not. It fails most of the time on the day we are supposed
to deliver the contents to the configuration management team - Murphy's Law
I suppose :-)

4. Can anyone enlighten me on as to why I get the license errors when
it happens to be a floating license?

5. Has anybody on the list encountered similar problems related to
Automap? We are using the Automap 2000 Platinum Edition.

Any help/feedback on these queries will be really helpful as I seem to
wasting lot of time trying to debug the issues as the error messages are
anything but intuitive.

Cheers

Jaya

Hello Framers,

First of all let me thank all of you out there for responding to my queries.
Thanks a ton. Art, as asked by you am providing further details to my query
as under.

 3. What are the options of resizing a large image without
compromising

on the quality? The scaling option messes up the resolution.

More details, please.

1. Our manuals include many screen shots which are too large to fit
the document.

2. So we were applying a graphic tag to all the images. After
converting to HTML and PDF the images seemed fine, that is resized to a
smaller image without compromising much on the quality. But of late the tag
seems to be corrupted. On applying the tag the images look distorted and the
background changes from gray to white. Until now we had to buy hours from
Quadralay to fix the issues. The hours have exhausted so was wondering that
before we approach the Quadraly people if I could get some help from the
list and resolve the graphic issue ourselves.

3. I was in favor of using Photoshop to resolve this issue but others
in the team are not keen due to the effort required - learning curve and
manually resize.

Hope this helps to respond to my query.

Jaya Ghosh
