Without this feature all FrameMaker users of the European Union would be forced to throw FrameMaker away, as FrameMaker then would not support about half of the European languages. Microsoft did not document this feature or the documentation got lost in the Microsoft Web as now we live in the Unicode age. (3) As much as you and I and almost anyone else would love to see FrameMaker fully Unicode and OpenType savvy, it unfortunately isn't (and before any of you flame me publicly or privately with hate mail, I have no control over that!). I think it would be a good policy if, *whenever* you catch yourself starting to send *hate mail* about whether FrameMaker is Unicode and OpenType savvy you take a walk around the block, because clearly you're working just a little too hard! Dieter, To be very clear ... (1) I did NOT claim that these techniques were "secret." Please don't put words in my mouth. (2) By "registry hacks" I am referring to techniques that although expedient, can lead to major problems in subsequent parts of a workflow or in compatibility with other products or even the same product in the future as well as transferring documents using such techniques to other systems not-so configured. Opentype/special characters
Please forgive me if this has been covered a million times... I'm using FrameMaker 7.1 on Windows XP with Opentype fonts, but I'm primarily a Macintosh person. It's my understanding that Opentype expands the Windows character set, but I can't find anything like a Glyphs palette or a keyboard command that will enable me to enter a simple "less than or equal" sign without having to resort to the Symbol font. Is there a way to coax special characters out of Opentype fonts on FrameMaker Win? Many thanks. --Donna Reynolds
