This is so wierd, because this JUST happened to me last night. Indeed, it's a Word document opened in Maker. For my situation, it happened to the PGF that follows a text inset... once in a table cell, so it was the last pgf in the flow, and another time in the middle of the document. I found that if I inserted a bunch of pgfs in front of the dodgy one (hit return a few times), I could then modify the format for those pgfs. Then, if I deledet up from the bad one, it took the formatting of the previous pgfs. So that fixed the problem for me. Very odd, and scary. The usual MIF washing didn't have any effect. I was scared that maybe the file was corrupt, but I think I can trust it. Time will tell... This has happened to me a few times. I've deleted the paragraph in MIF and it worked fine. It very well may be that the paragraph is locked... I recall seeing this, and the only solution I remember was to edit the MIF file directly. The statement you need to find and change is PgfLocked Yes to PgfLocked No in the MIF file. I don't have FM8 on this system so the following may not be exactly what you see but should serve as reasonable guidance... You can edit the MIF as text via FrameMaker by selecting it as normal through the FM Open Dialog, but hold the shift key when you click the 'open' button. This will bring up the open as Text dialog and you want to be sure to choose the treat each line as a paragraph option. You must also be sure to SAVE it as TEXT after editing (else you get a frame document showing the MIF code itself) Or use a regular text editor (I like Notepad++ from SourceForge - it's free) to edit the MIF. Bingo! There was PgfLocked Yes in the file. Sadly, changing it to PgfLocked No did not resolve the problem. However, removing the MIF code for the entire paragraph did make the offending paragraph go away and it also restored the section sign to the new last paragraph. I did look at the MIF reference guide and found this for PgfLocked: Yes means the paragraph is part of a text inset that obtains its formatting properties from the source document. However, this does not appear to be a text inset, so I am not sure this applies. In summary, I have a solution. Thank you! But I would love to know if there was another way of fixing it other than editing MIF XML, that always makes me nervous. Thanks everyone! Here is an update on what I found: Changing the PgfLocked Yes to PgfLocked No allowed me to then change the tag applied to the paragraph to something that would not end up affecting the header. My previous solution of deleting all the XML in the MIF file worked, but it was indeed overkill. I had forgotten that you cannot delete the last paragraph in an FM document anyway. Last paragraph in FM file cannot be modified
It very well may be that the paragraph is locked... I recall seeing this, and the only solution I remember was to edit the MIF file directly.? The statement you need to find and change is to in the MIF file.? I don't have FM8 on this system so the following may not be exactly what you see but should serve as reasonable guidance... You can edit the MIF as text via FrameMaker by selecting it as normal through the FM Open Dialog, but hold the shift key when you click the 'open' button.? This will bring up the "open as Text" dialog and you want to be sure to choose the "treat each line as a paragraph" option.? You must also be sure to SAVE it as TEXT after editing (else you get a frame document showing the MIF code itself) Or use a regular text editor (I like Notepad++ from SourceForge - it's free) to edit the MIF. I don't understand why you don't see the closing section symbol, perhaps it is set to white or a very small point size, or maybe the text overflows the text frame and the autoconnect feature is off... there are a few possible reasons. ? Bingo! There was in the file. Sadly, changing it to did not resolve the problem. However, removing the MIF code for the entire paragraph did make the offending paragraph go away and it also restored the section sign to the new last paragraph. I did look at the MIF reference guide and found this for PgfLocked: Yes means the paragraph is part of a text inset that obtains its formatting properties from the source document. However, this does not appear to be a text inset, so I am not sure this applies. In summary, I have a solution. Thank you! But I would love to know if there was another way of fixing it other than editing MIF XML, that always makes me nervous. Thanks everyone! Thank you again to all who volunteered to assist on this issue. Here is an update on what I found: Changing the to allowed me to then change the tag applied to the paragraph to something that would not end up affecting the header. My previous solution of deleting all the XML in the MIF file worked, but it was indeed overkill. I had forgotten that you cannot delete the last paragraph in an FM document anyway. As always this is a wonderful group and I am thankful to all of you.
