That's a good idea. We're considering persuading our manager to let us put the FrameMaker files on a networked drive so we can use FrameMaker's locking capability. Cheryl On Fri, Mar 23, 2018 at 5:01 PM, Robert Lauriston wrote: > If you're using Git, then you might want to create a wiki page wh

If you're using Git, then you might want to create a wiki page where people can informally check files out and in. On Fri, Mar 23, 2018 at 12:41 PM, Cheryl Magadieu wrote: > Thanks. Unfortunately, we are using Git, so we can't lock the files. > > Cheryl > > On Fri, Mar 23, 2018 at 3:31 PM, Robert

The target document has to be open. If the other writer is working on the target file, you could put in "add x-ref" placeholders and add them later. Are you using a source control system such as Subversion? That helps avoid problems. You check out the files you need to work on and check them back

That's not going to work - whenever you have Doc A open and want to place a xref to Doc B (that they have open), you need to be able to open it to place the xref. Doc B also gets an internal ref back to the spot in Doc A (that's why you get offered the chance to save Doc B after xref-ing to it).
