Re: FM9 Buggy UI Behavior (Joseph)

2009-04-14 Thread John Hedtke
Dear Joseph, et al:

Yes, I have been observing the dancing menus problem for a month or
two. I hadn't noticed the other problems, but they could well
be. I've got ATCS 2.0 loaded (and am writing a review of it). I'd
tried to describe this problem to RJ Jacques, but he said he hadn't
run into this before and didn't know what it was just from the
description, so I was unable to get additional information (as of
around the beginning of March). I was trying to shoot a Captivate
movie to show this, but got sidetracked by work. Sounds like I'm not
the only one, though. whew! My system is a pretty vanilla box:
ASUS motherboard with an onboard Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, with a
ViewSonic 21 LCD monitor. I'm running at 1400 x 1050 x 32-bit
color. The dancing menus are easy to see and trigger: loading a new
FM file does it for me.

Don't know if it's something other people have shown the folks at
Adobe yet, but at least there's more than one of us.

Yours truly,

Yes. Whenever I switch between workspaces, toolbars flicker for 2-3 seconds
(less noticeable flickering occurs in other cases).

I see this in both standalone FM9 and FM9-TCS2, on two different computers.

Re: FM9 Buggy UI Behavior

2009-04-13 Thread Joseph
Hi Art,

When you mentioned the video card, an idea occurred to me. I am using a Dell
lap top, which is hooked up to a dell flat screen monitor. The monitor's
highest resolution is 1680 by 1050 pixels, the lap top's highest resolution
is 1440 by 900 pixels. When I placed the FM 9 window in the lap top, no
issues occurred with the GUI, while on the monitor issues did occur.

Then, I reduced my monitor's resolution from 1680 by 1050 to 1440 by 900
(the same res as my monitor). Once I did that, the distortions to the FM 9
GUI stopped occurring. Apparently, my monitor's res had to match my lap
top's res, otherwise FM 9's ability to display the GUI is interfered with.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Sincerely,
Joe

Are you using the DVI connector or the VGA connector on the laptop (to

not DVI, can you try that and see if the problem persists?

Also, have you tried switching from dual-screen mode (where the output

Which laptop and graphics card is it, by the way?

maximize the FM window and/or change the workspace while the FM window is

One other thought perhaps: I do have 2GB of memory ... how much does

they have to use some system memory when displaying full-screen stuff
and if you do not have enough memory in your laptop, this may be
swapping to the disk and creating the artifacts you see. This is a SWAG
