[Frameworks] Looking for Morgan Fisher interview with Jack Goldstein (1977)

2014-01-08 Thread Fred Truniger
Dear Frameworkers
I have been asked to give an introduction to some films by Jack Goldstein next
week. Because no library in Zurich, Switzerland has a copy of any magazine or
book in which it has been published, I would like to ask you: Does anyone have
a digital copy of Morgan Fishers Interview with Jack Goldstein from 1977 and
would agree to send it to me?
It was published in the LAICA Journal, no. 14, April-May 1977. p. 42-45.
Then reprinted in:
Jack Goldstein. (Exposition, Grenoble, Le Magasin, Centre National d' Art
Contemporain, 3 fév. - 28 avr. 2002. Eds. Yves Aupetitallot; Lionel Bovier. Le
Magasin-Centre National d'Art Contemporain (2002)
and in:
Jack Goldstein. Films, Records, Performances and Aphorisms 1971 - 1984, ed. by
Daniel Buchholz and Christopher Müller, Cologne 2003.
And again (in Germain and in extracts this time) in: Morgan Fisher im Gespräch

Any help?

Thank you! – Fred___

Re: [Frameworks] 16mm print of Ballet Mecanique -- version by William Moritz

2014-01-08 Thread Pip Chodorov
Light Cone definitely rents this print. They had
an older silent print when Moritz sent this one
and we debated about the colors and editing.

Does anyone on Frameworks know where to source a
16mm film print of William Moritz's
'reconstruction' of Leger/Murphy's Ballet
méchanique? It has a soundtrack that attempts to
provide a sense of Antheil's original score, and
it also has some colour tinting in some sections.

This version is on YouTube, and I've seen a VHS
version, but would love to access a print. I
have already checked EYE, Lightcone, FMC,
Canyon, MoMA, and CVM.

Thanks!

Hello Insa.

The Echo Park Film Center in Los Angeles did a project in 2010 entitled WORK.
There were 23 short films that examined various aspects of work (immigration,
globalization, bad jobs, good jobs, capitalism, neighborhood stories, etc...)

It is powerful piece. We would be happy to mail you a DVD.

Be well,

Getting work:

nestled deep in Ken Jacob's STAR SPANGLED TO DEATH
is another film by James Otis - ON YOUR OWN (1981)
a cut-up found film shot in an employment agency (circa the 1960s?)
with editing structured around the repeated words job jobs
and training .

Getting to work:

Mark Ostrowski's LA LINEA (2012)
(Spanish for Bus Line)

brings to my mind
Chris Marker
as well as
William Carlos Williams's poem
THE RED WHEELBARROW.

Human beings have the need to believe in something,
interact socially, and love each other. If not, you'd die of
a broken heart or a heart attack. There's no doubt about
what someone needs for personal well-being...

Re: [Frameworks] Films/Videos looking at concepts of work

2014-01-08 Thread Warren Cockerham
There's also Teching (Sam) Hseih's* One Year Performance 1980-1981 (Time
Clock Piece) *which I believe exists somewhere in 16mm format. Sam punched
a time clock on the hour every hour for one year in his studio. He shot one
frame of 16mm film for each time clock punch. He shaved his head at the
beginning of this performance - the time lapse/animated hair growth serving
as a record of the performance. I believe he was institutionalized briefly
right after this performance - he didn't sleep for more than an hour at a
time for one year... punching a clock several times a day is maddening
enough. A link explaining the work: http://vimeo.com/16280427

There's Jodie Mack's* Dusty Stacks of Mom* that is currently playing all
over the world. Search the title and you'll find tons of info on it and
it's relationship to work, labor, capitalism, MOM pop business, etc.

I also made a video a few years ago called *Between the Sheets* that I can
send anyone on the list a password protected link to. Description: A hidden
cellphone camera documents the trek of a box of sheets as it travels
through a Wal-mart Distribution Center. Part roller coaster ride, part
Marxist critique, this cat and mouse game was shot on the final day of ten
years of service by associate 2569.

It's only password protected because my sister still works there and is
supporting two kids with the job. I really can't jeopardize her job (no
matter how shitty the conditions are and how politically unjust the entire
corporation is) with my silly little video that could be easily found with
a simple internet search. But art folks, you might be interested.

Dear Frameworkers,

It's that time of year again!

68th EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 18 - 29 2014
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: BLACK BOX EXPERIMENTAL SHORTS SECTION
DEADLINE 18th February

EIFF is once again inviting experimental submissions for its BLACK BOX section.
I'm looking for works of short or medium length on any format. As always, I
strongly welcome films on 8mm, 16mm and 35mm. EIFF continues its support of
analogue film! We also do our best to cater for works requiring multiple
projectors.

Films should be UK premieres, should not be available online at the time of
submission, and should be no more than 12 months old by June 2014. For EIFF's
submission rules and regulations please visit:
http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/submissions/rules-regulations.

Fee waivers apply for Frameworks subscribers so if you'd like to submit a film
please contact me directly at this address. You will most likely receive a
generic response with the fee waiver form attached. Don't take it personally!

Looking forward to receiving your films, as always.

Best wishes,
Kim Knowles
