Re: [Frameworks] Films about labor and leisure--by women

2014-05-14 Thread Fred Truniger
if you speak german the films of jürgen boettcher are worth a good look at.
they do deal with work and leisure.
especially Wäscherinnen is worth looking at: boettcher portrays young workers
in a industrial laundry in their working environment and interviews them about
their dreams and everyday activities.
... hard to find, though, in german only (i guess), and from a long bygone
period in the history of our societies...

2014-05-14 Thread Julian Antos
If you're looping 20 minutes of film be careful about what projector you're
using. A little Eiki portable will have a hard time pulling that much film
through the looper and the film or projector may be damaged.

 Hi all,

I'm looking for films that portray situations of labor and leisure
together. It would be great if there were texts specific to those films,
but I'm also seeking out writings on/that reference this dynamic within the
context of films, cinemas or public spaces. I'm trying to find modernist
essays on cinema as spaces of leisure as well. Obviously Sharon Lockhart's
Lunch Break comes to mind. I feel like there was a thread similar to this
a while back, so I apologize if this is redundant, but I wasn't able to
find anything through a search of the archive.

 Thanks!

[Frameworks] transformers and brightness

2014-05-14 Thread Alex MacKenzie
Thanks for the comprehensive list Alain.
This barrel is on a kodak pageant, and so yeah, not such a fast lens at f1.6
and impossible to find anything slower, especially given the skinniness of that
barrel. I don’t think I will go so far as to machine it out. I was really
looking for an easy way to increase the actual bulb brightness by upping it to
300/350W from 250W, say, without doing damage. I will look into the rheostat
idea.

And thanks David for an incredible response to the transformer query, very
helpful. I will contact you off list.
