Re: [Frameworks] Simpson Optical lens quality
Simpson was around in the 1940s through the late sixties, making classroom projector lenses. You'll sometimes see them on old 300-series B projectors. I would strongly suggest buying a modern lens with a modern coating, at least late-sixties grade single-coated stuff. A lot of it depends on what projector you have. If you have a standard lens mount you have a lot of choices, but if you have an old Ampro or a 300-series, you are going to be pretty limited in what is available. Isco has been around for a century now. They currently make some excellent lenses, but over the years they have made a lot of stuff that was good at the time but not really up to modern standards. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] Simpson Optical lens quality
Eiki takes a 42.5mm barrel, and will interchange with Bauer, Phillips, Kinoton, Meopta, and a few others. Isco and Schneider currently make some very fine and sharp and very expensive lenses for 42.5mm mount, but if you look around you might find some late-model lenses out there at good prices. In general, high end 16mm lenses are not selling cheaply on the used market the way 35mm lenses are. But you can call used dealers and see what they have available that is short and sharp and well-corrected. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] audio recorder recomendations?
I'm partial to the Roland R-26 as a basic field recorder with built-in mics, XLR inputs, and phantom power. It's nothing fancy, but can handle some abuse, and I appreciate having independent gain adjustment for the inputs. The specs allow you to record up to 6-channels, but it's really going to be some combination of 2 XLR OR 2 1/4" channels + stereo from the built-in mics + stereo from a mini-plug. If you want something that will handle more than 2 external pro mics, this isn't it. It's similar to the Zoom H4n, which is also an OK basic field recorder w/ XLR inputs and phantom power, but which requires you to use the menu interface to control gain during recording. -Jason Halprin Jason Halprin jihalp...@gmail.com jasonhalprin.com___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] audio recorder recomendations?
You can buy a couple cheap models from Zoom that are unimpressive but inexpensive., You can buy a couple models from Tascam that are a good bit more money but definitely have better analogue electronics. Then you go up a huge step and you can buy stuff from guys like Zaxcom, or Sound Devices. This is the point where you start getting decent grade preamps where you can afford to be sloppy with gains. Then there's a step up from that with the Nagra and the Aaton Cantar So... it all depends on whether you want to put down $100 or $100,000. --scott ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
[Frameworks] audio recorder recomendations?
I'm looking to buy an easily portable digital audio recorder, so this is an appeal to the collective knowledge of the list. I haven't looked at what's out there in a long time, and value recommendations of equipment that's actually been put in use. Doesn't have to be fancy, but an internal microphone and the ability to pull files directly off a memory card would be perfect; to have phantom power and xlr connectors would be a plus. I know there are lots of devices that have this profile, but I've had bad experiences with untried equipment. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! [Frameworks] Simpson Optical lens quality
Dear Friends, I am looking to get a 1" lens that I can use to project in smaller venues for screenings. Does anyone know about the quality of Simpson Optical lenses? I don't know much about them and can't seem to find much info on the internet. I see that ISCO is a quality brand, but don't know much beyond this. Any insight would be appreciated. thanks, Meg --- http://margaretrorison.com/ http://sightunseenbaltimore.com/ ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
