Re: [Frameworks] editing strategies (question for everyone on list)
I would suggest you watch all your footage and log it, then watch it all again several times before setting a structure. Make notes, then write an outline before doing any actual editing. ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

[Frameworks] editing strategies (question for everyone on list)
Hey all, I'm starting to finally edit an enormous project. Often, I basically don't plan out a pre-determined structure for a film but treat it more like an abstract painting. I pick things as I go, and edit intuitively and conceptually at the same time. But, this time I have an enormous amount of footage, like 2.5 hours, plus a lot of found footage. So, I'm curious about other people's editing strategies while dealing with large amounts of material. Or if you usually deal with small amounts...suggestions from you are welcomed too. Thanks in advance. Feel free to email me directly. Thanks in advance! -charles ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
Re: [Frameworks] A desktop video
I’m a big fan of this goofy little “dance film” that James Budd Dees made using only a cursor and some clicking & dragging: https://vimeo.com/50107963 Pretty sure this isn’t on most people’s radar, but it should be. Having explored the basic properties of the celluloid strip itself in early works such as FILM IN WHICH THERE APPEAR…, his attention turned to the spectator in a series of 'literal' films that question the illusionary nature of cinema through the use of word play and visual ambiguity. His work often parodies experimental film itself by mimicking his contemporaries and mocking the solemn approach of film theorists and scholars." -Mark Webber, TWO FILMS BY OWEN LAND FLEMING FALOON (1963, 6 min, 16mm) FILM IN WHICH THERE APPEAR SPROCKET HOLES, EDGE LETTERING, DIRT PARTICLES, ETC.
