[Frameworks] Passing of long-time director Howard Guttenplan -Millennium announcement

2015-03-07 Thread Peter Kingsbury
Howard Guttenplan 1934-2015

It is with profound sadness that Millennium announces the passing of former
Executive Director Howard Guttenplan. He died peacefully in his sleep on
February 23, in his own surroundings, while receiving compassionate care from
hospice workers and friends. He was a Navy veteran, and in accordance with his
wishes was buried at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.

Howard led Millennium Film Workshop from 1971 to 2011 -forty years, a biblical
generation. A brilliant administrator, visionary programmer, and pragmatic
supporter of aspiring filmmakers, he worked tirelessly and with passion to make
Millennium’s founding idea real: “To offer the non-commercial film artist -of
whatever experience, or proven degree of proficiency, and without interference
in either film-subject or style -the use without cost, or at minimal cost, of
the tools of filmmaking, instruction in filmmaking, and a means of contacting
others of like creative interest.”

In the near future Millennium will coordinate a screening series celebrating
Howard’s work on behalf of moving image artists. Further information will be
available at Millennium's website http://millenniumfilm.org/, its Facebook
page http://facebook.com/millenniumfilm, and through its email list (you may
join at the website).

[Frameworks] Managing Editor wanted for Millennium Film Journal

2015-04-19 Thread Peter Kingsbury
Part-time Managing Editor wanted for Millennium Film Journal

The Millennium Film Journal (MFJ) seeks a part-time Managing Editor to manage
production, staffing, business planning, marketing, and sales. MFJ is
published twice yearly by Millennium Film Workshop, a non-profit media arts
center located in New York City. It is one of oldest journals of moving image
art in the world, with a global readership of 750 in over 20 countries. Since
1978 its sole commitment has been to cinema as an art form rather than as a
commercial product.

The Managing Editor will be responsible to the Senior Editor. Bookkeeping and
HR support services will be provided by Millennium. The candidate should have
entrepreneurial instincts, experience in publishing, and an interest in film.

The Managing Editor will work initially as an unpaid volunteer, compensated
only with free access to Millennium’s equipment, facilities, screenings, and
workshops. As circulation grows a compensation package will be available. We
estimate that this work will require about 8 hours a week. Contact

[Frameworks] Millennium Members & Friends Informational Meeting (bylaws revision presentation)

2015-10-02 Thread Peter Kingsbury
Members and friends of Millennium Film Workshop are invited to an Informational
Meeting that will introduce proposed Bylaws revisions on Wednesday October 7 at
7:00pm. The presentation with Q will be held in the Gallery of Brooklyn Fire
Proof East, Bushwick. This revision and restatement of the Bylaws,
commissioned at the April 2012 Members Meeting, are intended to meet the letter
and spirit of new state non-profit laws, strengthen Millennium’s governance and
support, increase transparency and accountability, and enhance member
participation. This meeting will be an opportunity to learn why Bylaws
revision is critical to Millennium’s future, and how this revision can move us
ahead. In a few weeks we will ask the members to vote their approval of these
new bylaws. Then elections will be held for our new expanded governing board.
At this meeting we will explain the new candidate recruitment process that will
lead to the board election, and why it is central to Millennium’s new process
of board development. We will explain candidate expectations, and the diverse
skills and life experiences Millennium seeks to build a stronger board.
Brooklyn Fire Proof East is located at 119 Ingraham Street in Bushwick,
Brooklyn. (Two blocks from the Morgan Ave station on the “L” subway line.)
