Hey folks!
how would you go about burning a compilation DVD, with a collection of
different shorts, each with a different aspect ratio?so that they all play back
correctly from a regular DVD deck?
So far I've tried with Adobe Encore & an Oppo deck but no luck, looks like I'd

Moira,
You can use MPEG Streamclip to change the aspect ratio and/or cropping on each
of the files. Open the program, select "export to quicktime" and then select
the appropriate settings so you can make all of the files either 16:9 or 4:3.
The default settings will allow you to easily make a 4:

Hi All,
I saw a clip on YouTube a year ago or more of a performance piece involving
film and "painting". I believe the artist was French--I'm almost positive
it was from the mid 1970s. I could not find it. Does the following
scenario ring a bell?

Hi Moira,
To allow alternate aspect ratios you need separate Video Title Sets (VTS).
I don't know the Adobe Encore abstraction for titlesets, but in Apple's
DVD Studio Pro, they call them "tracks". I would assume that this
functionality must be available in most DVD authoring software. Each

Yantra uses an edit of part of Henk Badings' Cain and Abel, an electronic piece.
Lapis uses an edit of Ravi Shankar's Raga Jogiya, from the Ragas and Talas
album, which was released in 1964. But I believe Owen is correct, the track
wasn't added to the picture until after 1965. But the Whitneys
Pierre Hebert combined live action and painting in some of his films, and he
was kind of a trickster, but this sounds more sophisticated than what I
remember of his work. You might check him out in any case.

There are three variables here:
how the DVD is authored
how the DVD player handles different SD aspect ratios
how the display device handles different SD aspect ratios
In other words, no matter how you author the DVD, you may still have 'issues',
depending on the playback components.

Ah yes! Thank you. That's it. Funny how "Paper Landscape" and "Man with

Hey Guys,
I'm interested in doing a screening of Cameron Jamie's video works -
does anyone have any idea who has the rights for them? Alternatively,
does anyone have a contact for Cameron Jamie himself?
Thanks a lot
