Re: [Frameworks] Projecting 16mm in Europe

2015-10-23 Thread Margaret Rorison
Thanks, Chris. I appreciate the thoroughness. I spoke with a few people and
thought it through and realize it would make the most sense to just borrow
a projector in Berlin. It would save a lot of hassle!

All of this is great to know, however and I appreciate the explanation.

Re: [Frameworks] Projecting 16mm in Europe

2015-10-22 Thread Chris G
Hi Meg,

To add on to what Bernd, Diana and Roger have said I would recommend
renting/buying a projector in Germany if possible. To add on to the other
responses you need a step up/down converter with a significantly higher power
rating like this one:

http://www.amazon.de/2000W-SPANNUNGSWANDLER-220V-step-down-step-up/dp/B005MNT876/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1445515915&sr=8-2&keywords=2000w+Spannungswandler

This is presuming the Eiki is rated at ~7.5 amps. 110v x 7.5a = ~825W and you
generally want one rated at 2x or 3x the power consumption since the actual
draw on the converter is rated lower during longer periods of use. 2000W should
be fine, but you also have to fly with the projector and find/install the belt
to compensate for the frequency difference (50hz and 60hz).

You might be over the weight and/or size limit (generally 50lbs/23kg and 62
linear inches) for most airlines once you get it packed up. Plus internal
connections and components can shake loose during travel. So the converter at
€100, the baggage fee at $100-200 plus the belt ($5-30) and you could buy an
Eiki or Bauer in Germany for about the same or less. There are a lot of Bauer
P*s (5-8) on german ebay and shipping is generally less than it would be in the
states for larger items.

It may be a pain to coordinate purchasing/shipping with a foreign ebay account,
but I think it's easier than getting your Eiki over here and working, unless
you have a surplus of time/money.

Just my two cents!

Good luck!
Chris

Meg,

In addition to the proper voltage converter mentioned in Diana and Bernd’s
posts, if you want your projectors to run at 24 fps, you’ll have to switch the
belts. (The issue is the 50Hz vs. 60 Hz, which isn’t addressed by the 220V to
110V conversion.) It’s a pretty easy operation that I did on 4 of my
projectors when I took them over a few years ago. Instructions are on page 22
of the manual here:

Dear All,

I am hoping to bring my Eiki slimline slot load 16mm projector (120 AC v) with

Will I need just an adaptor for my plug or do I also need a voltage converter?

I know this is probably a simple problem, but I am not sure what I need to
bring with me/consider.

many thanks!

Re: [Frameworks] Projecting 16mm in Europe

2015-10-21 Thread Bernd Luetzeler
Hi Margaret,
you will need a „Spannungswandler", and you can get them here.

Something like these here:
http://www.amazon.de/500-Watt-Spannungswandler-220V-120V/dp/B000L9C1NY/ref=pd_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0RKDEATS60M0WZSKT4WC&dpID=41rkUVZIY%2BL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

http://www.amazon.de/300W-Spannungswandler-220V-110V-stepdown-Schwarz/dp/B005WQZ7O6/ref=pd_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=115EGMCA4M986J7TXFBR&dpID=41huFYBIWTL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

But I have no idea which one is the right one. Write down your projector specs
and ask at Conrad Electronic at Hermanplatz…
http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/ChainstoreInfo.html?detail&chainstorecode=CS_DE_B_Kreuzberg

good luck!
Bernd
