You could try some fine oil - like that used for sewing machines - just a drop
here and there - or even half a drop - not spray. But what you really need is
grease. I would recommend sending the projector away to a specialist, since the
old grease needs to be removed and the cogs relubed with fresh grease, if this
is what's causing the problem? I couldn't say which grease to use, it is a moot
point. A lot of the brands which were available when these fine machines were
in their heyday are no longer manufactured.

Whatever you do, don't get grease or oil on or near the belt drive, which will
then just skid. If you do, remove the belt and apply 'chalk white' powder to
the belt drive wheel rim and belt itself, then take off the excess chalk. That
will de-oil the belt.

These guys are pretty hot on lubing projectors:  http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/

Subject: [Frameworks] Projector lube

Does anyone have a suggestion for simple spray lubrication (wd-40?) of Pageant/
Kodak analyst projectors that are running slow?

Thanks, David

Get the manual, go through the procedure listed. It is not hard. You will
need a light grease and what Kodak calls light machine oil which is more
or less an ISO 32 turbine oil.

1. Don't ever, ever run a projector with the cam follower dry. There is
usually a cotton pad near the top of the cam follower that is attached to
the pull-down claw. If that gets dried out, you will destroy the cam with
a few minutes of operating. Put a good turbine oil on there. Zoom-Spout
Oil from Ace Hardware is a good choice.

2. The motor bearings on the Pageant also need regular lubrication with
the turbine oil.

3. Don't ever, ever bring a can of WD-40 near anything you care about.
It is not a lubricant.
