Can't install 11 .iso images in virtual box

2015-12-29 Thread Yuri

disk1.iso has kernel panic during boot.

And bootonly.iso boots but after downloading kernel and base it says
that there is the incorrect checksum, and it needs to downlodagain.

Just tried FreeBSD-11.0-CURRENT-amd64-20151217-r292413-disc1.iso

This is because we can only store (currently) one version of the
distribution sets on FTP, and the most recent build (from last night) is
syncing to the mirrors currently.

What was the panic message for disc1.iso? I do not recall seeing
a panic with that image when I tested the last set of builds.

I had the same problem yesterday and got a reply that this is a known bug,
check the archive of the list:

I believe the panic was the isofs lock order reversal. I and a number of
other people saw the same thing in another thread.

I think kib@ fixed it in r292772, once your new ISOs are out, I can confirm.

interrupt and resume poudriere jail creation

2015-12-29 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

I'm creating a new -CURRENT jail for poudriere with:

# poudriere jail -c -j freebsd-r292778 -m svn+http -v head@r292778

The src/ is checked out via SVN and it is already compiling the jail
for two hours, but I have to interrupt it for some network problem here
and I did the mistake to start it in a SSH session :-(

Is there a way like -DNO_CLEAN when compiling 'make buildkernel' to
resume the compilation in the jail at the point of the interrupt?

Thanks

The good news - new images are syncing to the mirrors now, and will be

UEFI Memstick Not Booting on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon

2015-12-29 Thread Atomic Beef
Hello,

Over the past few days I have been trying to install FreeBSD 11-CURRENT
with full disk encryption on my laptop and finally got it installed
yesterday, albeit without any encryption.

The problem that I was running into was that even though the installer on
the USB booted fine and installed the system, my laptop would fail to boot
the brand new installation. I managed to "fix" this by inserting the USB
with a 10.2-RELEASE installer on it. For some reason my system started to
boot just fine after that.

Once I had tested that everything worked on my laptop, I used dd to get the
11-CURRENT snapshot back on my USB, but I found that it would refuse to
boot. The 10.2-RELEASE image doesn't work either.

When I asked the forums about this issue, they said that it could be a
problem with the UEFI on my laptop and that a workaround might have to be
created.

Thanks,

Ted

This is one of the areas where snapshotting with filesystems would definitely
come in handy, e.g. ZFS (snapshot before installworld, rollback if installworld
fails).

Stack backtrace on `zpool export`

(From /var/log/messages)

First I've only seen this on the console at shutdown or reboot (after sync I
think) but later found I can reproduce it by exporting a zpool.
While the only pools I can trigger this without a shutdown/reboot are connected
via USB(3) I still see it just before poweroff at shutdown when the system's
root pool is synced.

When I try to export a zpool under heavy load (`make -C /use/src -j 4
buildworld` on a 2 core CPU w/ HT) the system locks up completely. I don't
think it's related to memory pressure as I haven't seen swap being used during
a buildworld (with 8 gigs of RAM).

Has anyone else seen this?

Please file a bug for this issue and assign it to freebsd-fs. It doesn’t look
familiar (there might be a lock ordering issue with either zfs or vfs+zfs).

Haven't tried /usr/obj on tmpfs (yet), just ufs and zfs.

D-link wireless not detected

2015-12-29 Thread Daniel Braniss
Hi All,
I have a working tp-link usb (realtek), but can’t get a d-link(also realtek) to
work.
usbconfig:
ugen0.4:  at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST
spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA)
This is on a raspberry pi running a resent current.

cheers & season greetings,
danny

I've added freebsd-wireless list.

My 2 cents. It might be helpful to see more details about the adapters.
For example:

# usbconfig -u 0 -a 7 dump_device_desc
ugen0.7: <802.11 n WLAN Ralink> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH
(480Mbps) pwr=ON (450mA)
  bLength = 0x0012
  bDescriptorType = 0x0001
  bcdUSB = 0x0200
  bDeviceClass = 0x
  bDeviceSubClass = 0x
  bDeviceProtocol = 0x
  bMaxPacketSize0 = 0x0040
  idVendor = 0x148f
  idProduct = 0x5370
  bcdDevice = 0x0101
  iManufacturer = 0x0001
  iProduct = 0x0002  <802.11 n WLAN>
  iSerialNumber = 0x0003  <1.0>
  bNumConfigurations = 0x0001

Did you google the idVendor and idProduct values and see if Linux has a

Hi Andriy,

Can you fix the crash above and verify this error patch?

Hi,

I see 11-current has a fix. Maybe MFC that to 10-stable?

Andriy:

After:
 usbd_transfer_unsetup(sc->sc_xfer, URTWN_N_TRANSFER);
There is no need for:
 usbd_transfer_drain(sc->sc_xfer[x]);

Hi,

You should be able to get this device working by adding a device entry to:

src/sys/dev/usb/wlan/if_urtwn.c

Can you make a patch and PR for this, and I'll submit upstream. I
recommend you test using an 11-current kernel.

As I mentioned previously we don't support rtl8192eu. One difference
between those is the the number of endpoints and its addresses.

Hello freebsd-currents,

The login prompt comes up which then gets overwritten by the output of
the process of usb being successfully recognised. I have to hit return
to get a fresh unobscured login prompt and can log in normally.

What do I have to tweak to either extend the timeout value or make the
timeout disappear?

thanks,

Hi,

You should be able to get this device working by adding a device entry to:

src/sys/dev/usb/wlan/if_urtwn.c

Can you make a patch and PR for this, and I'll submit upstream. I recommend you
test using an 11-current kernel.

--HPS

clearly, I’m missing something, because it’s not working :-(
the only visible change is now
ugen0.4: <802.11n WLAN Adapter RealtekWireless N Nano USB A> at usbus0, cfg=0
md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA)
before it was
ugen0.4:  at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST

Hi,

You should use vendor RALINK (according to your usbconfig dump)

vendor RALINK   0x148f  Ralink Technology

Hi Andriy,

Can you fix the crash above and verify this error patch?

Hi,

I see 11-current has a fix. Maybe MFC that to 10-stable?

Is there a Bugzilla issue ID for it?

No, it was fixed in r292174 (as a part of
https://reviews.freebsd.org/D4447)

Andriy:

After:
 usbd_transfer_unsetup(sc->sc_xfer, URTWN_N_TRANSFER);
There is no need for:
 usbd_transfer_drain(sc->sc_xfer[x]);
