yesterday evening i fliped through the developers handbook x86 assenbler
section.
it states that an assembler compile is part of the base system
(http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/developers-handbook/x86-the-tools.html).
i can't find it on 5.1-R.

There certainly are some files in CVSROOT that 'co' does not give you:
those such as 'passwd' that are restricted to administrative use. You have
to login to the server and edit those files manually.

anoncvs2.de.freebsd.org and counterchecked at anoncvs.freebsd.org and the
webinterface (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/)
the procedure i followed was exactly that described in the handbook

i just tried to cvs co CVSROOT in order to try out setting up a CVS
repository - the FreeBSD way as described in the article of the same
name in the docs section
but there seem to be a few file missing in the CVSROOT i got
trying modules as access got me an error message that the file

When I looked at the source of the FreeBSD system I noticed the $FreeBSD$
tag (and $NetBSD$, $OpenBSD$, and $XFree$) which seem to expand relative to
$CVSROOT. How does one create/define own tags like this?

this might be an incredible stupid question but since i am not that familiar
with disk geometry i ask it anyway:
I just bought an Hitachi DeskStar 180GXP HDD (it's the same as IBM) which is
supposed to have a capacity of 61.4 GB but i can only get approx 58 to 59
out of it.
why?
is there a way
i am building a db server which has 1 IDE (40GB) and 2 SCSI (18GB each) HDD
each disk has 1/2 phys ram swap
the rest of the scsi's is in RAID 1 and holds the data (/data)
the sytem is on the 40 GB IDE
my question now is:
since i am left with approx 2x the size /data can i create two spare
