I am looking for a script that I can run a cron on that will
update my sources and ports, build world, kernel and install everything
without touching my network settings so i can get back in later.
doing everything remotely is a pain and I would like to stay "stable".

yes, but we already have dns servers. we do alot of name resolution at my
site and would like to have some type of caching on the web servers
themselves so as to reduce the load on our dns servers. I haven't been able
to determine if ncsd is part of the freebsd build, as I didn't see it
anywhere

Copy the tar.gz into /usr/ports/distfiles first else you'll have to
download it again.

You state Network topology:
Internet---Campus Network---(xl0)FreeBSD NATD machine(xl1)---Internal host
Internet is public ip address, if Campus Network private ip address then
you
can not nat them again, if Campus Network is public ip address then you
should
nat x11 for the private ip address
If one uses an incorrect tag in cvsup, it tends to
destroy the /usr/src tree, a sort of make zapworld. Would there
be anything wrong with backing up the /usr/src directory to a tar
file before running cvsup so that if the worst happens, one can
restore the directory to what it was before

Oh yes -- we can not forget Emacs. Not my preference, but some have devoted

To Un
there are a number of neat IDE packages for FreeBSD in the ports tree.
kdevelop is certainly one of them. there are a couple strong ones for
the gnome environment, too.
browse http://www.freebsd.org/ports/devel.html and search around for
'IDE'.

i still stand by my method: the file you want the command
KDevelop is the one I tend to use. You could try Eclipse as well. I
believe there is a C++ plugin for it.
