Pre-compiled package shortage
Hello everyone. I am a former user of Freebsd-7.2 Release who migrated to Debian. I was unable to find an ftp server that had a decent enough list of precompiled packages (including the default at ftp.freebsd.org; for example, when installing gnome2 via precompiled packages, the package manager was unable to find a number of dependencies available in package form. True, I can compile them from source, but this is rather time consuming. Does anyone know of an ftp server dedicated to maintaining a comprehensive list of precompiled packages (a la Debian Testing)? In all other regards, I favor freebsd over Debian or any other linux distribution, and would like to return to using it. ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-questions-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"
Problems with PolicyKit and device mounting
Hello all. I am currently running 7.2-Release. I followed the instructions at the freebsd project website for configuring gnome; furthermore, I edited my Policy Kit to allow user 'bobo' to mount removable drives. Re: Server encryption
Yes, having to enter the password in after reboot is a bit of a pain. That is not all; the encrypted drive must be fsck'd as well, which is a bit annoying. At present, I encrypt secure documents on my laptop, and leave my server unencrypted; thanks to your input, I will continue to do so. Thank you. Server encryption
Hello, I was wondering if it was a worthwhile endeavor to encrypt a backup hard drive on a server that I currently have in my office at school (I am a graduate student). I do have sensitive data on it (backups of my mail, as well as an msmtprc file that contains the password to a gmail account of mine). problem rsycing with remote dir
Hello everyone. I am using the --backup flag in rsync to save incremental changes that rsync makes when I sync a directory on my laptop with my remote server. Please look at my pastebin code: http://pastebin.com/m16a3ce38On The problem is that I end up generating an r...@davidkarapetyan.homeunix.com: directory on my laptop that contains empty versions of all the directories that were backed up. In short, it is a directory filled with empty sub directories. Furthermore, I am unable to have $INC be placed anywhere other than within $TARGET, no matter how I alter the code. Interestingly enough, I use a very similar script on the server itself, with no issues. It seems that rsync's remote backup scheme, with the --backup flag, is a bit borked. Code to enlarge/shrink browser's embedded quicktime player
I was wondering if it was possible to generate code that would allow my clients to shrink or enlarge their quicktime players when playing lecture videos from my server.
