sound doesn't work randomly

Hi, I have a Via8233 onboard sound card. After reading a few docs and installing oss, I got sound to work but the problem is that it works sometimes and just doesn't work other times. This only happens with FreeBSD, with linux it's working fine all the time so I believe I can rule out hardware prob
