Is 192.168.0.3 assigned to any interface? Have a look at ifconfig(8)
output. You can add an alias with ifconfig and/or put something similar
to /etc/rc.conf (assuming sk0 interface):

% ifconfig_sk0_alias0=inet 192.168.0.3 netmask 255.255.255.255

For comparison you may want to have a look at leaseweb (www.leaseweb.com).
They are offering dedicated physical machines for comparable prices.

My private colo box is hosted there and so far my experience has been good,
though I have not yet had any kind of hardware disaster or similar so I
cannot speak to how their tech support works in those cases.

ipfw show questions

2004-03-11 Thread Roberto Pereyra
Hi all !

I want to do traffic accounting with a freebsd firewall.

I configured a ipfw firewall with dummynet support.

When I do: ipfw show the output show:

0010025648 1869498 allow ip from 10.1.0.2 to any
0020030115 3544967 allow ip from any to 10.1.0.2
00300 325 18354 pipe 1 ip from 10.1.1.30 to any via rl1
00400 452 444960 pipe 2 ip from any to 10.1.1.30 via rl1
005001 229 pipe 3 ip from 10.1.1.31 to any via rl1
006000 0 pipe 4 ip from any to 10.1.1.31 via rl1
00700 815880 pipe 5 ip from 10.1.1.32 to any via rl1
00800 364314 pipe 6 ip from any to 10.1.1.32 via rl1
.
65535 33030639 14936134258 allow ip from any to any

A question: What means each column ?
The third column is the traffic in this rule ?
I not reboot my server, for example, in a month then I have the monthy
traffic for this IP ?

Thanks in advance

dialup question

2004-02-23 Thread Roberto Pereyra
Hi

I want to setup a dialup freebsd 5.2 server.

My setup is:

---INTERNET-| GATEWAY |-|DIALUP SERVER| -|192.160.0.171
192.169.0.1 192.168.0.170|192.168.0.172
 |192.168.0.173
  8 lines
My ppp.conf is:

default:
pap:
  set debug phase lcp chat
set timeout 0 set debug phase lcp chat
  enable pap
  set ifaddr 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.171-192.168.0.178 255.255.255.0
  enable proxy
  accept dns
  set dns 192.168.0.1
  load server
  set radius /etc/radius.conf

I have enable the eight lines in my /etc/ttys

ttyd0 /usr/local/sbin/mgetty -s 115200 dialup on secure
ttyd1 /usr/local/sbin/mgetty -s 115200 dialup on secure
..

Some question:

I must enable

pseudo-device tun 1

1 must be 8 or this setup is automatic for freebsd 5.2 ?

Is my ppp.conf rigth ?

Is the set ifaddr line rigth ?

I have in both sides USR 56K and not have more than 32k with analog lines. How can I
have more speed ?

Thanks in advance

roberto

dialup question ?

2004-02-20 Thread Roberto Pereyra
Hi all !

A question:

I want to configure a simple dial-up server and have this ppp.conf

--
default:

pap:
  set debug phase lcp chat
set timeout 0 set debug phase lcp chat
  enable pap
  set ifaddr 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.101-192.168.0.104 255.255.255.0
  enable proxy
  accept dns
  set dns 192.168.0.1
  load server
  set radius /etc/radius.conf

My dial-up server (192.168.0.170) is not the internet gateway (192.168.0.1)

The line:

  set ifaddr 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.101-192.168.0.104 255.255.255.0

is right ? the first ip must be the system gateway or must be the dial-up server ip ?

Thanks in advance

Re: How dangerous is 5.2 for production use

2004-01-23 Thread Roberto Pereyra

However the fsck of our 300+500 GB RAIDs
takes almost an hour and that's why i want to switch to 5.x because it
 fscks in the background.

Hi

FreeBSD 4.9 can fsck in the background too, look /etc/defaults/rc.conf

Set in /etc/rc.conf

fsck_y_enable=YES

roberto

The machine is an ASUS A7V333 with AMD XP 1800+ and 512 MB RAM, 3ware
 7500 RAID.
 It provides the 'usual' services:
 - NFS
 - Samba
 - IMAP
 - SMTP
 - LPD printing
 - Mailman
 - HTTP
 - Postgres
 - LDAP User, mail aliases, automount info
 - IMP Webmail

So, no fancy hard- or software, i guess.
Would it be very hazardous to sitch to 5.2 already now?

Another thing: Is there any point in converting the filesystems to UFS2
 (in a later step)?

 Thanks for any insight,

I can't get burncd to work properly, but cdrecord will. Steps are
 (all as root):

 - Install sysutils/cdrtools and sysutils/mkisofs
 - Get the device name:
   # cdrecord -scanbus
 - First time you want to burn something:
   # mkisofs a.txt | cdrecord dev=xxx -multi -
 - Next time you want to append:
   # cdrecord -msinfo
(this will give a number like 0,19304 or something)
   # mkisofs -M xxx -C 0,19304 b.txt | cdrecord dev=xxx -multi -

If you use files with long names (more than 8.3), try the -J -R
 flags to mkisofs

Seems like a lot of work... You could try k3b (with kde)
or bashburn http://bashburn.sf.net/ for console use
