I guess what I'm really wondering is, if my existing connection
is PPPoE using a Gnet BB0040, then what modems would be compatible,
or alternatively what question would I ask the reseller in terms
of protocol?
I thing you shouldn't have problem with PPPoE connections
because allmost
told that I should either downgrade the radio card firmware
or to change the SO from FreeBSD to Linux with the driver
wavelan2cs or orinoco2cs.

There are some kind of packets that isn´t IP packets.
I don´t known exactly whichs, but a good read in
man tcpdump
man ipfw
man bridge
will make you make you undestand it better
