LSI 2008 drivers
Good afternoon, We're looking to build a ZFS storage device with FreeBSD version 8.3, however, the Supermicro based hardware comes with LSI 2008 SAS controller card and we were told that LSI / Supermicro doesn't have a driver for FreeBSD. We're just wondering if the LSI 2008 is supported under FreeBSD version 8.3? Please advise. Thanks. Philip Alltek Supplies, Inc. packages failing to load
uname -a FreeBSD localhost 5.4-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE #0: Fri Nov 24 08:54:35 UTC 2006 root@:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/VIL i386 I had FreeBSD-5.4 for about one and a half years. Loading packages with pkg_add -r was very easy. Suddenly pkg_add -r no longer works. Looking at freebsd's ftp sites, they got rid of the 5.4 release. They now have a 5.5 release. I tried downloading from packages-5-stable and packages-5.5-stable. About 50 percent of these programs fail. I get error messages that say something like /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object libexpat.so.6 not found. I'm not sure, but I think files ending in so.6, belong in version 6, not version 5. I have more than 10 versions of FreeBSD. I tried using packages off these CDs. some of them worked, but most of the time I keep getting error messages. What can I do? can't find libc.so.6
umame -a FreeBSD localhost 5.4-RELEASE FreeBSD-RELEASE #0 Wed Aug 31 10:24:01 UTC 2005 root@/;/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/VILi386 - I have FreeBSD-5.4 installed on a Pentium 4 computer. I am trying to install wput-.0.5 (the package). It requires libgnugotop-1.2. I installed libgnugotop and wput. This may not be required, but some programs do not work unless you shutdown and restart the computer. Every time I try to run wput, I get a message that says shared object -- /libexec/ld-elf.so.1 libc.so.6 not found. I find some of these libc programs on Google.com. Right now, after trying to find libc.so.6, I think I'm googled out. I need to know where I can find libc.so.6. Printer won't work
uname -a FreeBSD localhost 5.4-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE #0: Wed Jul 20 22:10:32 UTC 2005 root@:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/VIL i386 Can't get printer to work. I have a P4 compter with SCSI drives and 1 gig of memmory. It runs Mozilla, apache2, mysql and php5 perfect. When I try to print something, it doesn't work. I have a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet-500 printer. I followed the instructions in the Handbook. I tested it with the 'lptest /dev/lpt0' function. It printed one line, stalled for a few seconds like it didn't know what to do, then it ejected the sheet and then ran two more sheets without trying to print anything. The manual says if it prints something, it okay, you can fix the errors later. I did install the 'ifhp filter' from the /usr/share/examples to /usr/local/libexec/ifhp. The 'ifhp filter' is designed for the Deskjet-500 and will also work on most Hewlett-Packards. My printcap file is: lp|hp|local line printer:\ :sh:\ :lp=/dev/lpt0:sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:lf=/var/log/lpd-errs:\ :if=/usr/local/libexec/ifhp: My print spool is: /var/spool/output/lpd I chowned lpd for deamon, deamon and I also chmoded 770 like the book says. I used 'lpr file' to try and print something and all I received was: lp: no daemon to abort printing enabled lpc: Unable to connect to /var/run/printer: Socket operation on non-socket lpc: Check to see if the master 'lpd' process is running. couldn't restart daemon This tells you theres no socket and the daemon isn't running. I also checked to see if /var/run/printer existed. I cd'd to /var/run and that was it. I ran ls and printer did not come up. I also ran # lptcontrol -i -d /dev/lpt0 for interrupt-driven mode and # lptcontrol -p -d /dev/lpt0 for polled-mode. It failed both times. I know how to use ps -aux the see if apache and mysql are running, but I don't how to find out if the 'printing daemon is running. I think we need to somehow find a way to get the 'printing daemon' to run. This is about a far as I can go, hopefully, someone can tell me the steps to get the daemon going and how to tell if its going. I also tried this on the same computer with FreeBSD 5.4 without any applications installed. I also tried it on Dell-P3 with IDE drives. Both of these produced the same results. Problems with FreeBSD 5.4
I have been using FreeBSD for about 10 years. I have had the 5.4 version for about a month. The only problem I'm having is that there's of lot of files like libutil.so.3, libreadline.so.4, libm.so.2 and libexpat.so.4 that are missing. I have found most off older versions FreeBSD software. But I give up on finding libutil.so.3 I used google.com to try to find it. I did a search for libutil.so.3, also checked the Free Software Foundation and came up with nothing. Hope you can tell me where I can find it. cvsup not working
FreeBSD fixer.com 5.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE #0: Sun Feb 22 14:47:02 GMT 2004 root@:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/VILLATV i386 I am having a problem with cvsup version 16. I used it about a month ao with no problem. I have now tried it several times with no success. I even reinstalled the entire operating system twice. I activate my modum and type cvsup supfile. The box appears and I click the go tab. It goes wild for about 30 to 40 seconds downloading 40 to 50 files. This is okay. After that, it just dies. This is the problem. I don't understand why it dies. I have an external modem and after it dies, sometimes the transfer lights on the modum blink and sometimes theres no light at all. After it dies, it will go until it times out (15 to 20 minutes). I have FreeBSD 5.1. I installed the cvsup package off the 1st cdrom. I created 'cvsup' in the /usr/local/etc directory. I put my supfile under cvsup. I have csh, so I typed 'setenv CVS ROOT=/usr/local/etc/cvsup', which seems to work. The supfile I use is *default host=cvsup5.freebsd.org *default prefix=/usr *default base=/usr/local/etc/cvsup *default tag-. *default release=cvs *default delete use-rel-suffix compress ports-all I don't remember my first supfile, I thinks it like the above. Also I learned that if something in the supfile isn't perfect, it won't work. Please analyze and let me know whats wrong. modem problem
uname -a FreeBSD fixer3.fixer.com 5.1-Release : FreeBSD 5.1 - Release #0: Tue Jan 13 16:49:20 GMT 2004 root@/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/VILLATV i386 Modem problem. I have a P3-500 computer and a USR Robotics Hayes U5686 modem. The modem works perfect on Win 98, Win XP and Redhat9, but on FreeBSD its works a little strange. I have FreeBSD 4.7, 4.8 and 5.1. I plug the moden into a sio port, I type ppp and term, then AT, OK comes back and I type ATD3039514014, the modem dials and connects (I enter user name and passwork), the small ppp's grow to large PPPs and I am connected. Even though I am connected, no data flows(ever). Thats the problem. Theres no link between the modem and the computer. I thought of using ifconfig to add a route. After thinking for a while, I couldn't figure out 'how to'. I tried using 'tip cuaa0'. It did work, but only once(I don't know why). I do have /etc/remote configured to work with tip. Info I have says it's partially compatible for hayes. I tried it both ways, with at=hayes and without it. The results are the same. I made sure the file LCK under lock existed and just to be sure, I chmod-ed 777 LCK and lock, to be sure it was authorized. Without the lock file, it came back saying /var/spool/lock/LCK__file does not exist, then crashed. On FreeBSD 4.8, it says: %tip cuaa0 uu_lock: creat error: Permision denied all ports busy On FreeBSD 5.1, it says: %tip cuaa0 /dev/cuaa0: Permision Denied link down I have been fighting this problem for 2 weeks. I re-install FreeBSD several times (yes, I rebuilt the kernel each time).
