Use pkg_rmleaves (ports) to remove the leaf ports of gnome and keep
in going thru until you don't see
People,
What's the magic command to ger hald running while I'm running
KDE? The audio/multimedia app, Sound-Juicer can't find my
/dev/cdrom because the hal daemon isn't running. Exec'ing hald
by hand didn't work.
Anybody?

kind enough to include the log

I assume that's the question?
GNOME and KDE are available on FreeBSD, and are probably the most
featureful. XFCE is somewhat lighter weight, but also has a good
point. Contrary to KDE and
GNOME these aren't full featured Desktop Environments, but they might
do the job for you. Some of them mimic other UIs design and behaviour.
Check out the Window Managers website who they look and act.

Hello again!
KDE and Gnome both installed out of the packages on the CD.
Fonts look great in Gnome and crappy in KDE. Even KDE apps like kmail look
good in Gnome.
I've not seen this sort of stuff in any linux distro. Any ideas?

A friend set up GNOME on a Redhat system that I successfully

if you have KDE installed, try the program switchdesk on Linux.

Well, I asked for Gnome and that's all my friend
installed.
Where can I pull down a KDE3 *.rpm file?
You should be able to find links to packages from http://www.kde.org/
To get it on FreeBSD, just use ports. Check The Handbook (TM) for more
information :)

Thanks for the KDE URL. Here, portupgrade is giving me major
It built it fine here. Make sure your ports tree is upgraded to the latest,
then run:
portupgrade -rR kdebase
That should do the trick :)
