What I understand, from the mailinglist, the 'extension_dir' are allready
hardcoded in the php-source. So if you override it in php.ini, you have to

o the install doc for F-Prot,
you're supposed to put /usr/local/bin before /usr/bin in your path.
Also it depends of using bash shell.

Try to connect with an ordinary user-account.
If you need root access, use an account in the wheel-group,
and then su to root after you're connected.
